Saint Vitus

Lawrence, KS on October 2nd with Weedeater, Sourvein, and Death Valley Wolf Riders.

The Gods. Not necessarily a better performance than the previous two times I saw them, but to be able to get up so close to Wino and sing all these amazing songs was too memorable. Also got Weedeater to finally open for them, and Sourvein was pretty awesome too! I got my picture taken with both Wino and Dave but the pictures have yet to surface.

High On Fire

Kansas City, MO on December 10th with Goatwhore, Lo-Pan and In The Grove

Yet another show where each band was impeccable. In The Grove might be my new favorite local band, Lo-Pan was one of the best "I've never heard of these guys before" opening bands I've ever seen, Goatwhore put on the best performance I'd seen by them, and Matt Pike and co. were legendary. They truly must bring a tear of joy to Tony Iommi's eye.

Converge

Lawrence, KS on October 20th with Torche, Coalesce, Kvelertak, and Mansion

A totally stacked lineup. Kvelertak got the crowd going and were super energetic. But when Coalesce got on-stage, the crowd went nuts. One of the most violent pits I've ever been in, and the band on-stage was lost in their own insane world while they played. Torche was non-stop, switching back from heaviness to catchiness. And Converge...what is there to say? There's nothing like a live Converge show.

Occupation Domination Tour

Lawrence, KS on May 18th featuring Origin, Cattle Decapitation, Aborted, Troglodyte and more

One of the best death metal tours in recent years? Absolutely. It was a homecoming show for Origin and the bassist from Cattle, who is from Topeka. Shots were being handed out on-stage like they were water and I've never seen a crowd mosh so crazy for a band than they did for Origin. Chickenfighting in the pit? Sounds awesome and WAS awesome. Even ended the show with having to call an ambulance for a girl! Sweet. Origin and Cattle were awesome I expected, but Aborted was especially surprisingly good, despite being without a bass player. Battlecross is still a pretty enjoyable opening band, and Trog killed it with their opening set.

Children of Bodom

Lawrence, KS on February 6th with Eluveitie, Revocation, and Threat Signal

Ace performances by each band, including Threat Signal whom I didn't really think I would enjoy that much. Easily the best time I've seen Bodom. Alexi Laiho was on fire all night and didn't miss a beat, and the crowd was extremely receptive. It was also something like a year to the day since I had last seen Eluveitie, and they still cemented themselves as one of my favorite live bands. Revocation was unfortunately getting a semi-lukewarm reception, but then they goofed around a bit and the crowd got SUPER into them about halfway through their set. Hoping I get to see each band again soon.

glad you enjoyed them, I find they are fucking great live too, I try to never miss them, well missed them only once in Montreal since 2004

Cheers !

Solid list of performances. I'd love to be able to go to Chaos in Tejas.
