Great list so far man! I haven't heard all of these fully, but I have heard at least parts of all of them and I liked them all. Looking forward to seeing what else you have on here.

Thanks guys! I've been updating this rather slow but I'm gonna try and update it faster. I also have 3 more shows left this year, so the top live bands list is gonna be very last minute.

Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I ![]() There's a ton of shit going on in this album. Violins, clean passages, crazy guitar solos, everything that makes a progressive metal album good. The best way to describe Ne Obliviscaris is definitely Extreme Progressive Metal, because they definitely do that well. I've heard this album hyped like no other as well, and I'd say it was definitely worth the hype. This is some really good stuff.

Incantation - Vanquish in Vengeance ![]() Like Cannibal Corpse, Incantation put out another album this year playing the straight up death metal they're used to. The only difference I can really spot is that the guitar tone is a lot more high pitched than the traditional Incantation sound, but it still manages to fit. The riffs are the main indicator that you're listening to Incantation. John McEntee also sounds as good as ever on here. A big highlight is the last song, "Legion of Dis," which resembles the last track on Mortal Throne of Nazarene being a long and incredibly doomy track, but in this case ending with a TON of feedback. Overall, this album is more than worthy of being a great Incantation album.

Overkill - The Electric Age ![]() ATTENTION ALL 80s THRASH BANDS: THIS IS HOW YOU PLAY FOR 30 YEARS AND STILL MAKE GOOD FUCKING MUSIC. Granted, Overkill's middle material wasn't very good, but when they released Ironbound 2 years ago, holy shit, they got it back for sure. The Electric Age continues where Ironbound left off, with Overkill's signature sound and aggression. All I can say is that this album fucking rips, shreds, destroys, annihilates, etc. Easily one of the best thrash albums of the year.

Saint Vitus - Lillie: F-65 ![]() 17 years since the last Saint Vitus album... felt like not even a year or two when you listen to it. Seriously, this album could've been released in 1986 and no one would be able to tell the difference. It's awesome to know that these guys can still be consistent and awesome, even with an extended period of time. Also, Wino's back and he sounds as great as ever on here! The only flaw is that 5 of the 7 songs are actual songs, and it comes off on the short side at times. But I'd rather have it be 30 - 40 minutes long and feel short than have it drag on for an hour and a half. But yes, this album kicks ass and Saint Vitus still and always will kick ass as well.

Horrendous - The Chills ![]() Old school death metal is sure making a comeback with newer bands replicating the style. What most bands, such as Disma and Dead Congregation, do is similar to the style of Immolation and Incantation, but along comes Horrendous, who have a strikingly similar, yet original sound to some of the older European death metal bands, such as Dismember and Pestilence. The vocalist even sounds like a combination between Martin Van Drunen and John Tardy! Shit, this could easily be classified as old school death metal if not released this year. Definitely an awesome album.

Panopticon - Kentucky ![]() Truly an interesting album. Panopticon is a one man band from, well, Kentucky. On this album he tried to capture the scenery and history of the state by using bluegrass and southern folk parts of songs, as well as instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, and flute. He did a damn good job if I say so myself. One of the most interesting releases of this year, and black metal albums overall. I had this typed up before I stopped doing the highlights, but even more so conveniently this is an album you gotta listen to to see what I'm talking about. Highlights: Bodies Under the Falls Come All Ye Coal Miners Killing the Giants as They Sleep

Napalm Death - Utilitarian ![]() For some reason, I hated this album at first. I don't know what it was, I think a big part of it was the saxophone in "Everyday Pox" (which I still think is fucking weird and out of place), and it just felt like experimentation to me. But after seeing them live and playing these new songs, I loved this album. It's chaotic and full of awesome riffs, as well as Mitch Harris sounding awesome when he does vocals. So yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I hated this album at first, but I love it now, and you should too.

Aborted - Global Flatline ![]() This was the first 2012 album I had listened to! After Aborted released Goremageddon, they released a streak of shit leading up to now. Just bland and boring death metal, pretty much borderline deathcore. But when they put out Global Flatline, holy shit, they weren't fucking around with this one. Definitely the best album since Goremageddon. The whole album is chaotic and everyone on the album sounds fantastic. I love the sound of the bass guitar and the drums are just nuts. Some of the sound samples are just straight up awesome (I'M GONNA RAPE YOUR FUCKING SOUL) and there are actually really fucking good guitar riffs. Aborted are sure as hell back with this one!
