4. Bruno Mars - Locked Out Of Heaven ![]() Sneaking in near the end of the year, I remember hearing this song for the first time on the radio and thinking "Wow, when was the last time this pop station played Sting?" Bruno Mars is only getting better and better as a singer, and his dance-y stuff has always been good. This is just the icing on the cake so far. Impossibly catchy and fun to sing along to. Insert Tyler, The Creator reference here.

2. One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful ![]() One Direction is the only comeback boy band that gets it. "What Makes You Beautiful" is a fucking great pop song - it's catchy, it has stupidly sweet lyrics, and each guy in the band actually can sing (at least in this song) and putting it all together just makes for one of the funnest songs of the year. It's paper thin and hearing that opening chord makes every pre-teen girl in a 20 mile radius emit an ear-piercing scream, but it's GREAT.

Honorable Mention Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj - Beauty And A Beat ![]() I can't believe this is the same Justin Bieber that released "Boyfriend" and "As Long As You Love Me" earlier this year. That driving bass line throughout the whole song and arguably Jay Beebz best singing on a single yet. And Nicki Minaj doesn't even really ruin the song! That weird instrumental break isn't the worst thing but it's probably the only thing keeping this out of my top 10. If Jay Beebz makes music like this from now on, he will be unstoppable.

1. Ellie Goulding - Lights ![]() This is basically why I love pop music sometimes. There's no way this song would be on popular radio stations a few years ago. "Lights" is basically a continuation of one of my favorite pop songs ever, La Roux's "Bulletproof" - very synth and vocally driven, sorta-almost-downtempo pop dance music with great lyrics and a great beat. Ellie Goulding just hit everything on the nose with this song. It's hipster pop come to the mainstream, and it's fucking awesome.

The only thing I really like about that Ellie song is the vocal melody in the chorus, otherwise I don't see why it's on the radio. It's not heavily bass driven, it's not upbeat and catchy, it's just kind of there.
