Ha, I dunno. I think it has an interesting melody that's a bit off-kilter from what they were typically doing around that time, and I also think it's interesting that it didn't have a big chorus (or one at all, really). And it ends with that gorgeous acoustic guitar riff. It's hard to call Maiden "experimental" in this phase of their career, but I think this song was them trying something a little different.

I'm not trying to diss the big staples of this album or anything, though. If it weren't for CIPWM, this would probably be my favorite Maiden album. The title track was the highlight of their show this summer.

The thing I would come to find interesting about The Prophecy is that it uses what I like to call the "Manowar Groove." Similar to how you hear the galloping riff as a trademark of a lot of Maiden's songs, the Manowar groove is a, well groove that they would adopt on a lot of their songs (starting with Battle Hymn and showing up on Gates of Valhalla, Blood of My Enemies, Call To Arms). Now I don't like that Manowar have used that groove over and over again, as what they had on Battle Hymn was special, but it is what it is.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Maiden would use this type of groove. The first time was on Quest For Fire, but judging by how poorly that song was received, it's not really a wonder that they didn't utilize it for a few years afterwards.

You aren't wrong, but it was such a disaster that they pretty much ran hands on ass as far away as they could from it in order to not write anything similar to it for a while.

You can't be serious? Every song on that album except Quest For Fire and Sun And Steel are absoulte metal classics. Quest For Fire is just nothing, it's filler and it doesn't have the impact or power the rest of the album does. It's not so much that it's a horrible song or anything, it's actually an OK tune. It just doesn't messure up to the rest of the album.

As far as this poll goes, i'm guessing that whoever has voted for The Evil That Men Do and Can I Play With Madness hasn't heard the rest of the album yet. I mean that's the only explination as to why they would be anyone's favorite, right?

I'm surprised Only The Good Die Young is the only one without a vote, I mean if CIPWM can get a vote that song should have a few.
