Again, how is it that this isn't exactly what everyone expected? ALL of Away's art looks like that. Just look at the stuff he did for Roadburn last year when Voivod curated one of the days.

The Roadburn cover doesn't have a hideous color scheme. It's far from good artwork, but the color choices aren't bad. Convert Target Earth to b/w and it looks much better. But in regards to your point, no it's not really surprising that Away created horrible artwork. I've never considered him to be a good artist and this isn't the first time he's made something bad. As El Gordo mentioned, there are Phobos and Negatron. That doesn't mean I won't express how much I dislike this cover though.

The inking is too damn thick. The same line drawing with a thinner MS Paint tool would be infinitely less awful.

Why does the artwork matter that much? Artwork never really represents if an album is good or not. Its there just as a cover.

And yeah, if you think this album cover in particular is bad, you really aren't familiar with Away's art.

I don't think the artwork is that bad. Typical Away.

Can't wait to hear the rest of the album and can't wait for a tour. Haven't seen them since '03.

If artwork didn't matter then bands wouldn't pay artists to come up with something nice for their album. You're right that artwork does not represent whether or not an album is good, but nobody here said it did. And being familiar with Away's art doesn't make this seem any better. Bad art is bad art.

I didn't say it was good or bad. I'm just saying those who are knocking this only because of the artwork are not Voivod fans or are recent fans.

I get the idea behind artwork, I'd be stupid not to, but like you said, the artwork doesn't show whether an album is good or not.

I'm the kind of guy who pays attention to the music first, then the vocals, then the production then the artwork. If the music is good to me 9/10 of the time I will like the band or album.
