Down -- Silver Spring, MD -- September 30th, 2012
![]() Went to see DOWN on Sunday. There were a lot of people there, the floor was pretty crowded. They had some people on the balcony, but it seemed closed unless people maybe had a VIP or paid more or something, I'm not sure. Got there early enough to see Pentagram. I recently saw the documentary on Bobby, and wondered how much of a train wreck he'd be. He was a bit goofy, but the band sounded solid. I haven't really gotten into Pentagram so I only partially listened to their set after the first song. They were heavy, but that sort of retro heavy. I dunno, I know a lot of people were cheering for them. I thought Down was damn heavy and sounded great. Phil came on with a GHOST shirt and pretty much commanded the crowd constantly except for a few dead spots where I was pretty sure he was coming off of his high or something. Great show, but nothing played from their last album (but a bunch from their new EP) another shows on this tour. The most disturbing/interesting thing was the amount of people getting on stage: During "Ghosts..." someone climbed up on stage and was tackled into the crowd by someone else on stage. I don't know what that was about but it brought visions of Dimebag to my mind. During "Temptation's Wings," Phil singled out some Afro'd fan and brought him onstage. That kid was STOKED. At the end for "Bury me in Smoke" yet ANOTHER fan got on stage, but he was promptly put in a full nelson and removed by security. I was thinking a lot about a Dimebag type situation I have to say. If I were Phil I'd be a bit pissed off at the Fillmore security. I mean we emptied our pockets and they did a pat down, but if someone wanted to end Phil, they totally could have snuck something in relatively easily... :/ DOWN Eyes of the South Witchtripper Open Coffins Lysergik Funeral Procession Lifer Losing All Ghosts Along the Mississippi New Orleans Is a Dying Whore Temptation's Wings (Afro'd fan on stage) Misfortune Teller Encore: Guitar solo Hail the Leaf Stone the Crow Bury Me in Smoke (some other guys on stage swapped out for the band near the end) full review: http://heavymetalcowboysteve.blogspo...sept-30th.html |

I swear some people are just stupid, unless the band personally tells you to come up you shouldn't be jumping on stage.
The exception is occasionally when you're at tiny ass place with no rail, and they encourage it. |

Your NYC show got Saint Vitus, which is more than enough redemption.

Where's the goddamn Pentagram set? No excuse for not watching them. Especially since it was Victor Griffin's last US show.

Pentagram probably played the same set as the rest of the tour. I wasn't feelin' them so I only passively listened. I imagine someone must have their set, I know Chris from DCHeavyMetal was there and his review should be up soon.
