I have a scoring system.

To clarify on bending the rules. Cro-Mags have a lot of crossover credibility. Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys do not. AC/DC, Van Halen, KISS, Thin Lizzy, and Rush all have strong metal credibility. Journey and Warrant do not.

This was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. I tried to avoid thinking of just a generic "the most classic of the classics" and instead tried thinking of the albums that I find myself returning to the most often and the ones that really work as whole albums that create an atmosphere and really just work for its full duration instead of simply a given album with a bunch of cool songs. This was still really hard, since I really love every one of these albums and I had to drop a bunch that I really like in order to whittle it down to 50. I included 51 just in case JRA didn't want to count Appetite for Destruction.

1. Metallica - Ride the Lightning
2. Iron Maiden - Live After Death (Disregard this one because of no live albums)
3. AC/DC - Back in Black
4. Guns 'n Roses - Appetite for Destruction (just skip to the next one down if you don't want to count this one)
5. Exodus - Bonded By Blood
6. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
7. Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
8. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
9. Slayer - Reign in Blood
10. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II
11. King's X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
12. Iron Maiden - Powerslave
13. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
14. Rush - Moving Pictures
15. Voivod - Nothingface
16. Accept - Restless and Wild
17. Judas Priest - British Steel
18. Testament - The New Order
19. Ozzy Osbourne - Tribute (Disregard this one because of no live albums)
20. Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
21. Saxon - Wheels of Steel
22. Testament - The Legacy
23. Metallica - Master of Puppets
24. Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
25. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
26. King Diamond - Abigail

29. Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman

37. D.R.I. - Crossover
38. Rush - Permanent Waves
