Anthrax -- Seattle, WA -- September 19th, 2012

This show was such a WTF clusterfuck that I don't know how to start it... so let's see.....

I heard doors were at 6:30, then the day of the show were pushed back to 7:00, then at 6:50 they pushed them back until 7:30. Anyways, I showed up around 6:30 after fighting the hectic Seattle rush hour and spending $14.00 on parking, to get an OK spot in line.

While waiting outside, the normal army of homeless people were walking around asking for change. One of them was a singer, so we told him to sing a Metal song, he didn't know any, so he left. After said homeless man left, another homeless guy (who was laying on the ground next to the building) started to sing "I Am The Law", then he went into [almost the entire] "Angel Of Death". We all clapped for him and gave him money, this guy knew what was up. I believe after he finished he pooped himself.

Finally at 7:30 the doors were open, and at the same time, Death Angel started. I am sure a lot of people missed them, but damn, this venue needs to get their shit together. I am not a fan of Death Angel, I find their music rather bland, but I enjoyed them much more than I had back in 2004 when I saw them play with Metal Church (my first big show I ever went to). I am not familiar with their music, but I presume they played the set they have been playing for the rest of the tour.

1. Chose the Sky
2. Mistress of Pain
3. Truce
4. Claws In So Deep
5. Relentless Revolution
6. The Ultra-Violence / Thrown to the Wolves

After their set I ran into some familiar faces, and braced for the almighty... TESTAMENT. I was stoked to finally see Testament, but I was more stoked to see Gene F'N Hoglan on drums! And what did I see?!?!?!?... well... hear.... THE WORST FUCKING SOUND ANY BAND COULD POSSIBLY HAVE AT A SHOW. I don't know what the deal was, but everything was cracking, one of the guitars sounded like a huge fan was spinning in front of it, most of the riffs were impossible to make out. It really was a disappointment. The set was the same they have been playing, mostly new songs, with some classics thrown in for good measure. From what I could kind of tell, the band was in top shape, except Chuck Billy, getting off beat at moments and missing where the vocals change, but I am guessing the sound on the stage was as bad as it was in the crowd. Still... it was awesome to finally see them, and finally see Gene Hoglan in person.

1. Rise Up
2. The New Order **
3. The Preacher **

4. Native Blood
5. True American Hate
6. More Than Meets the Eye
7. Into the Pit
8. Dark Roots of Earth
9. Practice What You Preach
10. Over the Wall

Encore:
??. The Formation of Damnation
11. D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
12. 3 Days in Darkness

** I believe that one of these two was not played, it was hard to tell due to the horrible sound.

After an extremely long change over, AND PANTERA ON THE PA SYSTEM, Anthrax took the stage! I was only able to catch 4 songs, as it was a work night, but it was worth it! Their sound was nearly crystal clear, as opposed to Testament's, and it was heavy as hell. The four songs I caught were...

1. Earth On Hell
2. Caught In A Mosh
3. Antisocial
4. Indians

No A.I.R. . The crowd was singing along to all the words of the last 3 songs I caught, and it was amazingly powerful. I hope to see them again so I can catch a whole set since they were one of the first Metal bands I really got into.

Pantera Points:
7 T-Shirts
1 Dime Guitar Tattoo
Walk played by guitar tech of Anthrax
5 Minutes Alone played over the PA

You can't really say they didn't play AIR if you weren't there for the whole thing. Even though they still might not have.

When I saw the tour in January, it was Death Angel with the awful sound.

What venue was this at? Reminds me of when I saw the In Flames/BTBAM/3IoB/Faceless show at the Showbox in Spokane a few years ago. They pushed the start time back a good hour and a half so The Faceless had to start playing as soon as people were allowed to enter the venue, so many people (including me) missed a good part of their set.

Too bad about Testament's sound. I had the exact same experience when I saw them last year, although that was at an outdoor venue.

I was just making an assumption since it was in the first part of the set for the other shows, but yeah, they could have played it later on.

It was at the Showbox at the Market. That place usually has some good sound too.

EDIT: My bad, I should have looked that Testament set over again. They did play "The Formation of Damnation" during the encore, "The New Order" or "The Preacher" wasn't played, I don't know which one since the sound was so bad.

Well shit, I dunno! I could barely tell one song from the other
Maybe "Formation" was just added on.
