My buddy was working security at this show. Apparently he was there and saw it collapse from a distance.

When I think about musicians that I have hung out with or seen live that are no longer here now (Dimebag, Layne Staley, Randy Castillio, Peter Steele, Paul Gray, etc) and read comments like the ones above it reminds me why the general public stereotypes all fans of heavy music as being ignorant. The Gwar comment doesn't suprise me. Their music sucks, they are all about gimmick and need the attention. Wonder what Gwar would think if people sunk to their level and tweeted back to them joking about their own guitarist recently passing away?

I'm not a fan of Gwar, Radiohead... Sugarland... but it saddens me that tragedy struck and took the life of people who were just there to enjoy music they liked/were working so others could enjoy music.

was this the venues setup or the bands?
Its not standard amphitheater staging, it is festival staging put together for that show only, like Coachella for example. The staging is obviously not secured well enough in this type of set up. I believe the festival/concert promoters & production company along with the local worker union would ultimately be held responsible, but I am sure insurance will cover whatever legal action occurs from this.

That is the GWAR thing to do though. Right or wrong it is what they do. I don't agree with it in anyways, but that won't stop it from happening, the worst taste it is, the more likely it is to happen.

I honestly feel really bad for anyone attached to their drum tech. He died for music, which is not something most of us would actually do. and he wasn't even playing that night in a band. He was teching to make a band sound better for a festival show.

Its not about who is good or who is bad, it's all music, no matter what genre you choose to listen to. It shouldn't be like it is in this thread and in the AAL thread. Say what you want about mine, but when it affects a real musician, that is not cool in my eyes.

Nothing will piss me off as much as after Dimebag was killed, I think it was Peter Jennings on the evening news the next day who said, "And now, a glimpse inside the violent world of heavy metal..." and I threw like 20 things at the TV

Dimebag still bothers me horribly. He was an excellent guitarist in one of the most beloved & influential metal bands but more importantly he was the most likeable, down to earth 'rockstar' I've ever hung out with. Everytime he was so nice, like a long lost friend. Chris you will have fun partying with Rita after yalls booths close!!!
