That was exactly what I was going to post.

Things is, they have some immense riffs (mostly album tracks though, not the singles) and some damn fine songs. But it's cool to hate them

Clearly you haven't heard an immense riff.

It's "cool" to hate Nickelback just like it's "cool" to hate Nazis. Completely justifiable.

Bonus points to Ravenheart for the flawless use of the "it's cool to hate X" argument.

I don't hate them because it's cool to do so. I hate them because they suck. There are tons of bands I love that sonically don't sound all that different from Nickelback. Nickelback just does a far worse job at writing good songs than those other bands.

that would have been cool, but I was also thinking of stuff like woke up this morning, or hell most of the rest of silver side up as well. although ravenheart's right that most of the fans won't give two shits about their old material.

I'm perplexed because when i heard Nickelback I hear basically a 'modern' version of hair bands, perhaps a bit more polished sounding, and the ballads are nowhere near as great, but the same type of music.

Van Halen (80s) and Def Lep have a lot of those characteristics. AC/DC for some good straight ahead Hard Rock. I don't see how you can't appreciate any of those 3 bands (unless its a statement about some songs being overplayed)

I honestly don't know about Van Halen and Def Leppard because all I've heard are the 1-2 songs that are overplayed. AC/DC, I tried but I just can't get into.
