Mastodon -- Knoxville, TN -- April 16th, 2012
The Hunter Heritage Tour
Tennessee Theatre Knoxville, TN After a nearly 6 hour drive I arrived at the venue around 3pm. I walked around to the back of it and within a few minutes I met Brent Hinds who was walking with Mikeal Akerfeldt. They were polite enough to take pics with me and my friend. Brent Hinds was very cool and we end up partying with him a bit by the bands buses not long after they completed soundcheck. We also met and got pictures with Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor and Bill Keihler. I talked with Troy for a few minutes and told him how much I loved The Hunter and ranked it with Leviathan as my favorite Mastodon album. All of the guys were very nice and easy to approach. Brent was super cool and was fun to hang out with. He is very down to earth and has a good sense of humor. We also saw the guys from Ghost. I know who 2 of them are but due to my love of the band I would never reveal their identities. I love the mysterious element Ghost brings that is lacking in much of heavy music today and no way would I attempt to ruin that. My first time seeing Ghost. I was blown away at how loud and clear their sound was. As musicians they played perfect. Their entrance and stage presence was very powerful. They are not only one of the best live acts I have ever seen, but very unique. I can't wait for the new album!!! GHOST: Con Clavi Con Dio Elizabeth Prime Mover Death Knell Satan Prayer Ritual Ghost's entire set was flawless. If you are a fan of the band you will be pleased. I thought they sounded better live than on the album. The entire set was one big highlight for me but the bands entrance along with Prime Mover, Satan Prayer and Ritual really stood out a bit more than anything else. Next up was Mastodon. It is my 4th time seeing them and like the other 3 times they did not disappoint. My only complaints were that Brent's vocals were not as loud as they should have been. The band performed well and all of the members are near the very best in metal in terms of musicianship, song writing and performing live. Mastodon brought lots of energy. The light show was a good fit too. It was different not seeing them in day light or with the projection screen as was the case the other times I had seen them perform live. The crowd erupted during 'Blood & Thunder', which is to Mastodon as 'Walk' is to Pantera I suppose. Brent's vocals had improved greatly since I saw them last. Mastodon is one of the few metal bands that have more than 2 members who can sing background harmonies and lead vocals and sound in tune and good!!! This is just one area of many which really seperates this band from other popular metal bands in terms of talent. MASTODON: Black Tongue Hand Of Stone Crystal Skull Dry Bone Valley Thickening Octopus Has No Friends Blasteroid Stargasm The Hunter Crack The Skye All The Heavy Lifting Spectrelight Curl Of The Burl Bedazzled Fingernails Aqua Dementia Blood And Thunder The Sparrow After Mastodon me and my friend left due to me feeling sick. We missed Opeth and I hated it but at least I got to see Ghost and Mastodon. Dry Bone Valley, Thickening, The Hunter, Crack The Skye, Blood & Thunder and The Sparrow were the highlights of the set for me. If you have the opportunity to go see this tour I advise you to do so!!!

I took a piss next to Papa Emeritus at Station 4 back in January. I didn't realize it till I walked out, so I waited till he was out to thank him for a great show. So I know who he is too. But since it actually affects things, I'm not saying a word either on who he is, even if it has been revealed elsewhere.
