I really need to catch up on new releases. I still haven't listened to Asphyx, Overkill, and a few others.

I've voiced my disappointment with the newest Alcest album here... but after hearing a lot of it live, and going back to it, I've radically changed my mind. La Ou Naissent is hauntingly beautiful, Faiseurs de Mondes is amazing, and Summer's Glory is the perfect end to the album, maybe any Alcest album. Hopefully that opinion just gets reinforced by further listens.

Speaking of which, any other good recommendations for bands like Alcest out there this year? Isn't Pallbearer similar? I should check 'em out.

Yeah, check them out and then I'd recommend giving Revenge's new album, Scum.Collapse.Eradication, a listen. It's full of chilling, beautiful riffs, harmonious solos, and ethereal vocals. It really touches my heart like no other album does.
