L
L at those who were giving me grief for commenting even though I "haven't started my list yet". Fuck's sake, I'm already halfway done!Remember I said I listened to 120 albums? All that's left is the Sexy Sixty. I've listed everything else. Ergo, halfway through. ![]() Plus, I added my lists of live shows / performances. Anyway, I can see the interest is not dead. Yay, passive-aggressiveness! I'll try to get a bunch of albums from the Sexy Sixty up tomorrow. Here are some vague hints: #60 has instrumentation which I guarantee you've never heard played in metal (if at all). #59 is named after some very non-metal creatures. #58 is a grind band I heard at MDF the year I went. #57 is from a side-project of a former member of one of my favorite groups from Brooklyn. #56 is a non-metal album, also connected to NYC. Good luck, bitches.

Natrlhi’s Sexy Sixty – My Sixty (60) Favorite Metal (and a Few Non-Metal) Albums of 2012
So here goes with this beast. To set the tone for this final list in my “Best of 2011 List Orgy”, I’ll just reiterate that this list is simply a forced ranking of the top 50th percentile of albums I listened to this year. I listened to 120, give or take. Thus, there are sixty albums listed here. The math is pretty simple. Most of these are metal albums. A few are not. I may have missed some things. If you don’t see something in here, check the other lists I’ve posted. Maybe it’s there. If not, shout it out and maybe I’ll listen to it. Final comment: As with all lists of this nature, the forced ranking aspect is less meaningful at the beginning, and more so at the end. Translation: If you think #57 is better than #53, then fine. You’re right. I’m not gonna argue with you about it. If you think #11 is better than #5, then fine. You’re wrong. I’m not gonna argue with you about it – but I will fight you. Just name the time and place. So…let’s do this. ![]() 60. Botanist – I. The Suicide Tree & II. A Rose from the Dead This is without a doubt the finest black metal album by a one-man outfit featuring hammered dulcimer that's ever been written. Period. Hands down. (Pause for dramatic effect.) What's that? , you say?Indeed, WTF. All I can say is, it sounds a hell of a lot better than it should. I mean, the concept is just fucking out there. However, I have to admit - it kinda works for me. The only thing is, it only works for about a half hour or so. After that, this stuff begins sounding rather repetitive, and I've had enough. Thing is, this is a DOUBLE FUCKING ALBUM. The first one is about thirty minutes long...just right, in my opinion. The second one is about forty-five minutes long. If you can make it through that one, then good for you. If you can make it through both of them, then you are truly an avant-garde music nerd of epic proportions. Or, you've accepted a dare. EDIT: Need / want more info? There's a really good review of this album located here (and no, I didn't write it ).

Note that I'm doing a post for each album so I can link to each of them separately from the first page of this thread, thereby creating a clickable list of links to the various albums in the Sexy Sixty. I thought it might be useful.
I also did it for all of the individual lists that I've posted thus far. Yeah, I stole the idea from others who did something similar with their lists. Wanna fight about it?

So are all the reviewers for that site from Metal Set Lists?
Does Chris Poling post here too?

Goddamnit, you can't be serious. I honestly didn't know his name.
That would explain though why out of all the 2011 EOY lists I saw posted on that site, the one by Chris Poling was light years better than all the others.
