Cannabis Corpse - Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise ![]() Genre: Death Metal And here is the other 2011 album on here! I personally think this is Cannabis Corpse's best work so far. There is absolutely no filler in this album. The riffs are some of the most tasteful and defined riffs I've ever heard, as well. This was higher up in my best of 2011 list for a reason. It sucks that when I saw them they only played like 2 or 3 songs from this album. Oh well, regardless it's always a fun time to listen to. Highlights: Chapel of Bowls Dead By Bong Gateways to Inhalation

Augury - Fragmentary Evidence ![]() Genre: Progressive/Technical Death Metal This is an awesome album. Every instrument on here is just... wow. I remember seeing them live 3 years ago and they just blew me away. Their bassist definitely stood out the most, that guy is a monster. Even though the bassist is a monster, don't let that distract you from the other instruments! There won't be a single moment when you're bored listening to this album. If you want extreme technicality and a catchy feel while it's at it, do not hesitate to listen to this album. Oh, and the album art is one of my favorite album arts ever. Highlights: Simian Cattle Sovereigns Unknown Brimstone Landscapes

I'd probably have Obscura and Augury a lot higher if I made a death metal list, but that's probably because i'm a huge Progressive/Technical Death Metal fan.
Still an awesome list so far. Disma was an awesome new discovery for me ![]() Will definitely keep an eye on this! |

The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal Genre: Death Metal For those who don't know, The Black Dahlia Murder are a mix of some of the finest death metal genres around. They incorporate melody, technicality, and something that they emphasized more on Nocturnal, brutality. This is probably second best, if not the best album they have put out. The new album Ritual is a VERY close contender. So close I don't even know which one I like more. But anyway, this album is a mix of all sorts of death metal without making a mess. Notable mention to the introduction of drummer Shannon Lucas in the band, he makes this album ridiculous with his crazy drumming. Highlights: What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse I Worship Only What You Bleed - My favorite BDM song ever. The influence from Suffocation is huge on here! Climactic Degradation

The Faceless - Planetary Duality ![]() Genre: Technical Death Metal One of the first death metal albums I ever heard. I used to be the biggest fanboy for this band like 3 years ago. It was also sick seeing this album being played in it's entirety 3 years ago as well! Since then I've discovered a ton of other death metal bands (as you can see) and I kinda distanced my way apart from this album... but listening to it again is very nostalgic. Michael Keene shreds on this album, his solos are very clean and the riffs are heavy. The drums are also intense on here, Lyle Cooper (I think that's his name?) is a VERY talented drummer, especially for tech death. I personally think it's a step up from Akeldama, both as an album and genre change. Even though this album is just short of half an hour, it's still worth a listen for some crazy paranormal-ridden madness. Highlights: Prison Born Xenochrist Legion of the Serpent

Thanks everyone for the compliments! There are actually some stuff I'm forgetting but at this point it's too late. Some bands I forgot were Cardiac Arrest, Anata, Cianide, and Accidental Suicide. I didn't include bands like Between the Buried and Me since they're straight up prog metal to me, and Ghoul because they have a more crossover influence rather than death metal.

They could be considered death metal at some points.
