A lot of good choices there, a lot of bands I listen to and a lot that I don't listen to but respect. But I have to choose SUFFOCATION, because

They're the only band I like on the whole list. I don't like death metal.

If the question had been "who is the best American old school death metal band," I wouldn't have voted.

I went with Immolation. One of the most consistent bands ever, and Dawn of Possession and Close to a World Below are outstanding. Looks like someone else voted for them too!

Immolation is definitely up there for me as well.

After Deicide and Morbid Angel, it's between Suffocation and Immolation for me. And my old favorite Death rounds out the Top 5.

It's amazing how many of these bands were once signed to Roadrunner (Obituary, Suffocation, Deicide, and I think Malevolent Creation and Immolation). Damn, that label was awesome in the 1990's.
