Chimaira -- Grand Rapids, MI -- December 18th, 2011
Venue: The Intersection
Source: Me This was the Jagermeister tour that featured Skeletonwitch, Chimaira, and Unearth. There was an opening band that I think was local. I don't remember their name. There were okay, a bit of stereotypical metalcore/deathcore thing going on. The crowd was small for them, but a decent reaction. Skeletonwitch was next. They put on a great show. The singer had funny comments between each song. The guitar players were pretty talented as they were constantly tremolo picking at brutal speeds. I don't listen to them so I don't know what songs they played. Next was the main reason I came, CHIMAIRA. They have been my favorite band for the past 5 years, and this is Rob and Matt's second to last show ever with Chimaira (last ever on a tour because their last show is the Chimaira Christmas show). I think Chimaira is a great live band, as I've seen them 3 times in the past, and they did not disappoint this time. Probably the best performance this year, that I've seen. I stood right in front of Rob (he's my song writing and guitar idol and a huge influence on me). Set: Stoma (intro) Age of Hell Clockwork Losing My Mind` Power Trip Nothing Remains The Flame Pure Hatred Destroy and Dominate Severed (with drum solo and Everything You Love teaser) The Disappearing Sun Year of the Snake Resurrection I think it's the standard set they've been playing recently. They cut out Born in Blood which I was really looking forward to. I wanted to see Sean sing the part in the middle where the Whitechapel singer sung on the album. Standouts were Losing My Mind, Severed, Disappearing Sun (I'll stab you in the fucking back ), and Year of the Snake (the breakdown was legendary). I'll truly miss seeing the original Chimaira live, especially R0b, Matt, and Andols and hearing future albums with Rob's great songwriting, but I'll always support this great band. Also, Year of the Snake was cut short about 10 second because either Austin messed up or he fell out of his chair, I couldn't tell. Rob was extremely pissed about this for some reason. I don't know why though, Rob is always so calm and cool on stage and it was one of their last shows ever.I don't listen to Unearth so me and my friends left after Chimaira. Can't wait to see them on Chimaira Christmas this year, but I don't see how they can top last year's set. They opened with playing almost the entirety of The Impossibility of Reason.

Ya, last year's Christmas show was killer. Opening up with the first 6 off of Impossibility is sweet. I think they should play maybe 1 song off of the new album and leave the rest of the set for past albums.

Probably not gonna happen, but with the guitarists' last show you never know what they'll pull out for us.
