METALLICA concertgoers in Bangalore lose personal belongings

From Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles

Quote:
According to Hindustantimes.com, the METALLICA concert in Bangalore may have been a sweeping success with 34,900 fans but, for a hundred odd concert goers, it became a nightmare. Fans who were carrying backpacks to the venue were asked to pile them up in an unguarded open field near the main concert area, and found their stuff missing when they came out. iPods, laptops, passports and MP3 players were gone.

Those affected are now being slammed by others as ‘irresponsible’ for even thinking of carrying precious personal belongings, when the ticket clearly said baggage wouldn’t be allowed.

A debate over who is at fault - the organisers or the fans - has broken out on social networking sites.
Lars took their shit when they weren't looking

That was my first thought, but then I thought maybe people in Bangalore use public transportation moreso than their own vehicles (kinda like ravenheart ). So perhaps they take some of their more valuable belongings almost everywhere with them. But still, these people should have known better than to try attending a concert with a backpack.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people there wouldn't have had their own cars but that is a pretty dumb idea they brought the stuff in the first place. I mean, it sucks it got stolen, but come on. What did they expect?

Because that would have to have been done at the end of the concert, which would be too late?

Yep, London operates more or less entirely on public transport. It's rare for anyone to drive to a concert here except maybe at the massive arenas which actually have carparks. But usually then the carpark costs more than the public transport, so people don't bother.

Taking backpacks etc. is silly though. I only do when I'm photographing.

I hate when shows actually care that you have something like an ipod with you. So I would be pretty infuriated about this.

I get why people would be bringing passports if they traveled but why the hell are you bringing ipods and laptops to a concert? You get what's coming to you when you stupidly leave stuff like that unattended.

All I bring to shows besides the tickets of course, is my wallet, keys and phone. Which are all kept in my pockets.

I've done that before. I have my mp3 player on me at all times. In a pocket, granted, but still. And I've had to take a laptop too if I'm working from home the next day. Laptop has to get home somehow.

If I were told absolutely no luggage up front, then sure I wouldn't take one. But that's a pretty stupid rule. Every venue here usually at least has a manned cloakroom to check shit into.

Both parties are at fault in this, but more so the venue. It's a stupid policy, because people are going to have travelled from far and wide for this concert and you can't assume they've all got somewhere to leave stuff.
