(might be slightly out of order, but pretty close)

This was the first show I've been to at the new Emo's East. It's a large 1700 person capacity indoor venue across the lake south of downtown that has replaced the outdoor Emo's stage on 6th street. Unfortunately the turnout was pretty small for this show. They even had a buy one get one free ticket deal at the box office to generate a larger crowd. There were two local openers, one metalcore band that we missed (The Brigade) and Lions of Tsavo who play some pretty decent sludge. Up after that was Dallas' grindcore stalwarts Kill The Client, who are now on Relapse Records. Then we had a 45 minute wait until Dillinger started, which was at least more time for the attendance to build up. By the time they took the stage the crowd built up to a frenzy and the floor exploded pretty much immediately. Greg looked even more ripped than usual; like he's been hitting the P90X hard prior to this tour. That guy is an absolute machine and along with the rest of the band they make total anarchy on stage look effortless. Unfortunately at the new Emo's there is now a front barrier, so no stage diving; but Greg would stand up on the barrier and lean into the crowd to sing occasionally. At one point he scaled the amps and started pushing a big suspended stack of speakers causing them to swing back and forth; Greg's typical antics. It was great. They have so much energy and let it all out on stage. Maybe their energy as an opening band will keep Mastodon playing in top form throughout that tour.

I hadn't heard about Emos East until the beginning of this month. I'm interested in checking it. Sucks that i missed two good shows i really wanted to see in Austin this week due to school and work.

sucks about the barricade, but still, pretty good set. I can't make the show the NYC date on the deftones tour, but they're headlining a show in PA the day before and me and my friends are thinking about going to that instead. it'll be lucky number 7 for me.

No Mullet Burden? That's like, the perfect opening song!

Right!? Best Electronic music cover by a metal band. Have they ever played it live?

Awesome set, it'd be rad if they kept 'Horse Hunter' in for the Mastodon tour and had Brent join them for his part of the song...
