KISS KRUISE 2011
Carnival Destiny Ship
Kiss, who has always been the band “unlike” any other band, just completed the inaugural Kiss Kruise through Sixthman Theme Cruises. The “Kruise,” as it was dubbed, was four (4) days at sea with Kiss fans from over 35 different countries. Some of the countries that were proudly represented were Australia, Sweden, Peru, Canada, Great Britain, Norway and, of course, the United States of America.
The first day started off with a bang and included a rare acoustic set with the band performing without their traditional costumes and makeup. As the ship departed from the Port of Miami, the band took to the makeshift stage over the pool on the lido deck. Some 2500 people jammed every nook and cranny to see what would become the highlight of the trip for many. Rhythm guitarist Paul Stanley, decked out in a fitting turquoise shirt, hat and shades, was ready to rock as the opening chords to “Hotter than Hell” were played. Bassist Gene Simmons, sporting an acoustic bass with his signature, date and personal message to a lucky fan who pre purchased the guitar before the show, was all smiles and playing to the crowd as well. Drummer Eric Singer was also given center stage for his rendition of the Kiss classic “Beth.”
The die hard fans on this trip were also treated to obscurities from Kiss's commercially least successful album “The Elder’ with a medley of “Just a Boy,” “I,” and “Mr. Blackwell.” “Shandi,” from the 1980s “Unmasked" album, was also played and was a surprise to most. This song is usually reserved for the audiences in Australia as the song only charted in that country.
The band played longer than the expected 40 minutes they were slotted f
or. Afterwards, the band did a 45 minute question and answering period, taking questions from previously chosen entries.
