Raw Meat (1972)
dir: Gary Sherman
watch the trailer
view on Netflix

When a politician disappears in the London Underground and two college students are the last to see him, an investigation is lead by Inspector Calhoun played by Donald Pleasence. Horror fans will recognize Pleasence as Dr. Samuel Loomis from the Halloween series. The movie bounces between following the story of the college kids, the inspector and the killer. I don’t want to give too much away, but I think the phrase ‘subway dwelling cannibals’ is enough to spark interest. The first 20 minutes are kind of slow and really don’t point to the film being a horror movie at all until we are met with a long slow panning shot of a dank subway tunnel occupied by some gruesome sights accompanied by a tedious water dripping sound that sets the mood going forward. The climax ultimately leaves a bit to be desired. The graphic design nerd in me loved the simple 70’s style title cards.

song: Odors Of Existence - Gorguts - The Erosion Of Sanity
hear the song

Relevant lyrics:
Crawling survivors
Are screaming for life on their knees
Soon to be discovered
Stench-filled carcasses underneath

The Birds is a classic. I haven't seen it in years though, so I'm not sure how well it holds up.

In my opinion, very well, but I love Hitchcock so I may be biased!

I really need to re-visit some of his flicks.

Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005)
dir: Rick Bota
watch the trailer
view on Netflix

Hellraiser: Hellworld is the 8th film in the franchise and one of the cheesiest story lines to date. A group of kids are obsessed with a Hellraiser online game, so much so that one of them commits suicide because of it. This doesn’t deter the others when they get an invitation to a Hellword party at a mysterious house. From then on Lance Henriksen takes the kids on a tour of the mansion and they get picked off one by one in typical horror movie fashion. Bad acting, lots of gore and a dumb twist at the end are all par for the course once you hit the 8th film of a series like this. If you are remotely interested in this movie you probably know what you are in for. More of Pinhead and the other cenobites would have been nice.

song: Eternal Torture - Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
hear the song

Relevant lyrics:
Rooms of eternal torture, reveal endurance of endless pain.
Disintegrating mortals, bodies burn.
There you feel the hellish torture.
Hellish torment, brutal butchering.
Demonic creatures revolve in torment...

Haha. I watched like the first 20 minutes of that movie and couldn't take it anymore. Inferno, Deader and Hellseeker were all pretty cool in their own right, not on par with the original trilogy but pretty decent. The plot behind this one was just too stupid for me.

My cousin warned me to never see any Hellrasier movies past the second one. I only saw the first 2 and I didn't even really like the 2nd one.

The third is much better than the second IMO. After that I can't blame you for steering clear, although I've enjoyed them all to some degree except for Hellworld.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
dir: Robert Rodriguez
watch the trailer
view on Netflix

So instead of watching one of the shitty sequels today I thought I would watch the original classic From Dusk Till Dawn. If you haven't seen this movie yet and consider yourself a horror fan, you need to go watch it now. It's so much fun. It had been a couple years since I last watched it, but Clooney, Tarantino and Keitel are such an awesome combo. Tom Savini and Rodriguez favorite Danny Trejo are great as well. If you are not familiar, basically a pair of thieves kidnap a family in an RV to sneak across the border into Mexico and freedom. Needless to say, things go horribly wrong.

song: Bloodsucker - Doomriders - Darkness Come Alive
hear the song

Relevant lyrics:
Kill the bloodsuckers
Vengeance on the bloodsuckers
Pull them down and out from under
Battle cries in the first morning light

From Dusk 'Til Dawn is amazing, one of the first vampire flicks I seen, and still one of my favorites.

Hellworld on the other hand I have not yet seen, and I just find I'm never in the mood for how bad I expect it to be someday though, I plan on trying it! :P
