AnataFan4Life's Top Twenty Modern Tech-Death Albums of the Past Decade

AKA "Im gunna try this list thing out guise"

Technical death metal has been a genre that has gained a serious amount of notoriety in the turn of the 21st century. Some bands have managed to pull off the genre tastefully and put out some amazing pieces of work, while others have managed to run it into the ground with mindless wank. So these are my top twenty choices for the cream of the crop in one of my favorite genres of music. I decided to make it a bit more interesting by only including albums that have come out in the 21st century. When it comes to modern tech-death, these are the twenty records that stand out to me the most.

The first album will be revealed soon...

EDIT: I decided to go with twenty instead of ten. Sorry for the false advertising >_<

20. Dying Fetus - Destroy the Opposition

Starting off the list, we have this monster of an album. Along with Necrophagist, they are one of the first bands to really get me into this genre (before then, I only knew a few bands like Death and Atheist). For me, and most people, this is where Dying Fetus hit their peak.

One reason that this album is so awesome is that it houses a variety of influences. While mostly being a brutal tech-death album, there are influences from quite a few other genres, ranging from chaotic grindcore passages, New York style hardcore influenced grooves and breakdowns, and hell, there's even some rap influence thrown in there! Don't let that scare you though, as it's only in the vocals. Another reason why this album made the list is the way the songs are written. One minute you have John shredding out some mind-bending riffs and leads with Kevin Talley destroying his drum kit, then all of a sudden, the band changes gears and beats you over the head with a dumb, catchy mosh-groove riff, or crushes you with a massive breakdown. Its the bands ability to have technicality coexist with simplicity that makes this such an interesting and fun record.

Examples:

Born In Sodom
Epidemic of Hate
Pissing in the Mainstream

Wouldn't really consider it tech death, but what the hell that fact that you acknowledged this album gets approval from me.

Yeah I was a tad bit iffy on its inclusion. There may be a few albums on here that aren't necessarily agreed on as being tech-death, but I tried not to list too many of those.

I've only heard bits and pieces of this album. I'll give it a full listen soon.

It's a pretty easy listen compared to most tech-death albums, as all the songs have at least one catchy mosh riff to balance out the really technical parts.

This album is actually the inspiration for coming up with my user title! So many moments on this album where I just think... DAT RIFF

I was gonna do ten, but I decided there were too many awesome albums, so I decided on twenty. Too bad I did this after I made the topic *facepalm*

#19 will be coming soon. Hint? It's another band that got screwed by Earache records.
