It's the opposite for me. The older I get the more I prefer black, doom, post etc. I'm growing bored of death metal unless there's just a much different edge to it.

This, except I've grown out of post- at the same rate I've grown out of death. Both offer a release or two I really like per year now but it's nothing like they were for me in high school.

I'm all about black now, probably followed by interesting doom and prog.

Yeah, I guess I'm a sucker for anything post, but I prefer post-rock to post-metal beyond a shadow of a doubt, just because it seems like a far healthier genre at the moment.

I really prefer black and doom to about anything right now; just give me something with some atmosphere.

I can understand that. I get bored of it sometimes too, but I just find myself listening to certain death metal bands much more in the past few years, and I don't find myself listening to hard rock, alternative or any "core" as much.

I've found myself less and less interested in metal in general as I get older, but I think it's more of a phase. I have sort of become a little bit more interested in hip hop and I've totally swan dived into post-rock, so naturally I only have a finite amount of time to listen to them all. I think post-rock and metal will forever define my music tastes though.

Had a big black metal phase from October - December, but am right now heavily into sludge/stoner (Kyuss, Melvins, Kylesa) and metalcore that sounds like melodeath

Voted for death metal. Would have definitely voted for melodeath first and possibly symphonic second, had they been available.
