Wormrot -- Atlanta, GA -- March 27th, 2011

Great show! First band to play (besides some local hardcore band that played 5 minutes) was local death metal band Living Decay. They had a real dirty, old-school vibe, which I liked. Autopsy comparisons could be made fairly easily. That being said, on record I’d probably just throw them off as just another death metal band. Either way, they managed to impress in a live setting. Also, their drummer handled the vocals, which I thought was pretty damn cool.

Tombs came on afterward. I read online somewhere that they were to play all new songs on this tour. They shortened their set a bit tonight, I dunno why, but the songs ruled nonetheless! I’ve seen the term “blackened sludge” being thrown around before; now I understand. Amazing riffs and leads FTW!
I talked to one of the guys afterward; he said their new album was coming out in June and that soon they would add another guitarist to their touring lineup. Don’t miss these guys if they come near you.

And finally came the mighty Wormrot. I gotta admit, in recent months I’ve found myself not enjoying them on CD nearly as much as I used to. I still knew they would be a blast live, though, and I was right. If you are AT ALL a grindcore fan, you NEED to see these guys live. They are AT LEAST 10x better live than on record. Maybe some fellow grind fans on here could enlighten me on whether grindcore in general just really goes over well live, or if Wormot is especially good live? Because, like I said, this band is sooooo amazing live.

On to their set. They played a bunch of shit off Abuse, a couple songs from their split with I Abhor, and some new shit. I don’t know how much of their new album Dirge (to be released May 6) they played beyond “Erased Existence” and “Spot a Pathetic,” but it was all good. I actually didn’t mosh at all this time. The few people moving around were way too violent by the looks of it. Either way, I was perfectly fine headbanging and singing along (yeah right )

I don’t have a setlist but I doubt it would really help you if I did. There’s no possible way you can tell anything that’s being played, really. I recognized at most two songs, and they played A LOT more than two songs…

Only grind band I've seen was Rotten Sound, and they were certainly an incredible live performance.

Good to know, thanks.

Forgot to add some details. This show was at cool little art gallery. 2nd time seeing Wormot at an art gallery!!

Their bus/truck/whatever they drive broke down an hour south of the city, so they showed up a bit late. My brother felt sympathy for them because of that, so he wanted to just give them 25 bucks. I advised him not to do that, as I thought it would be insulting to their pride to just hand them cash, so he bought a $10 patch with 25 bucks and just told them to keep the change. Azean (band manager and Arif's girlfriend; she writes the band's blogs and is cool as hell) was surprised at first but really appreciative.

Also, there at least 70 people that showed up for their set. Pretty good for an Atlanta show, not to mention a freakin' grind show.

Being a huge grind fan I may be a bit biased, but I do think that most bands in the genre are far better live. Wormrot is a good example, I enjoy their records but was blown away by them live.

I've seen Rotten Sound and Wormrot live and they were both awesome. Definitely bands that I will see again when they come back.

The same is true for Pig Destroyer. They are fucking insane live.

Agreed. They are a band that I was insanely into before I saw them live and they did not disappoint. There are some other bands, like Splitter, that I wasn't sure about but totally won me over after seeing them play.

That's what I was thinking. The other two grind bands I've seen (Maruta and Cephalic Carnage, not full-on grind but they're definitely grindy all the same) were equally sick. Thanks for confirming it

I'll have to check out Rotten Sound when they come here as well...
