Agalloch -- Baltimore, MD -- March 21st, 2011

Fantastic performance. Setlist same as previous:

They Escaped the Weight of Darkness [tape]
Into the Painted Grey
Falling Snow
The Watcher's Monolith
Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor
Limbs
Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires
Our Fortress Is Burning II
~encore
Dead Winter Days
In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion

So, less than 24 hours after a riveting performance by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, I find myself in Baltimore to see a post-whatever group with a bit more of a metal taste.

This was another of those shows were it didn't matter what the band played, it was simply fantastic. I did manage to once again stand near the most moronic of the crowds (PUT YOUR FUCKING IPHONES AWAY AND WATCH THE SHOW) but Agalloch killed it. I was struck by how much the frontman resembles Ross Dolan of the mighty Immolation, but that's irrelevant.

I was bummed at no ...Waves, but Falling Snow is almost as great of a song; and, again, it didn't matter at the end.

Agalloch's shirts were $20 (one long sleeve and one short), and CDs were $15. They also had a bunch of vinyls but I don't remember any specifics. Also some professional photo prints, according to my photographer companion.

Great show. Don was amazing although John didn't seem overly interested in being there. I loved the wood, deer legs, and incense on the stage. Both Don and John had some amazing looking guitars too. I was right up front in the center and I would've liked one or two decent pictures but I didn't want to piss the guys off by using flash.

What fucking sucks is that some prick stole one of the incense cauldrons at the end of the set and Don and Jason were pissed. I don't think they caught the guy though. What a dick.

FYI about merch:

Marrow CD and 7 inch boxset was $40
New Vinyl with the Grey and the White on it was $30
And the tshirts didn't have dates on em, shame cause I would have definitely bought one if they did.

Deer legs? Would anyone else be stoked about an Agalloch/Watain tour with shared animal parts?

I think I'd have to do a lot of mental re-adjusting between those two sets, lest I sprain my brain.

This was one of the greatest shows I've ever been to. It was by far the best smelling show I've ever been to. Vindensang was incredible, Aerial Ruin played a great set, and Worm Ouroboros played way too short for my liking, but still was great. Full review tomorrow!

damn, their merch is expensive, but I'm still going to probably pick up that boxset. They most likely need the money anyways. Considering I lost my virginity while listening to Marrow of the Spirit, I'm hoping to pick up the boxset and get it signed by them after telling them that..

I was going to reply to this back when you posted, but they just approved me today....anyways, the long sleeve shirts had the dates along the right sleeve....pretty bad ass I thought. They were $25. Maybe they will have some left overs for sale when they get the merch section up on the new site.......

BTW, I was at the Raleigh show....same set and very awesome experience!
