Clutch -- Burlington, VT -- February 27th, 2011

The other two bands were Death Pesos and Waylon Speed. Both are from the greater Burlington area.

I caught two songs from Death Pesos; one was a pretty close rip-off of Overkill's Rip n Tear. It was strange. Two was a Motorhead cover, Shoot You In The Back. That was pretty cool.

Waylon Speed was billed as country metal. The songs with vocals was more a rock/country combo. The instrumentals were somewhat heavy. Overall the vocal songs sounded like bad Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and the instrumentals were pretty boring and repetitive. I will know better next time....

Clutch came on to save the day! I think I got the set right. Help me if I messed up.

Promoter (Of Earth bound causes)
(Notes From The Trial Of) La Curandera
The Incomparable Mr. Flannery
Immortal
The Regulator
The Soapmakers
Mice and Gods
Cypress Grove
50,000 Unstoppable Watts
Struck Down
Pure Rock Fury
Open Up The Border
Big News
Animal Farm
Gravel Rd.

ENCORE
Spacegrass

Great set........except for Spacegrass. Great tune, but to end with it lets the air right out of the tires. Army of Bono on the other hand...........

Yeah I'm hooked on Promoter myself now. Some songs take time to click and that one gets better with every listen now.

Never heard anyone complain about getting Spacegrass but I can see your point. I'd rather hear it before the encores too

Odd. When I saw them close w/ it in KC a few years ago that place just absolutely blew up as soon as the song started. Jealous as hell of promoter. Out of the 8x I've seen them I still don't think I've got to hear it yet... Dammit.

To elaborate on the Spacegrass ending, I love that tune. However after the set they played I was looking for something to kick my ass before I left the building. I would compare Metallica ending their set with Fade To Black. Great tune, but I want my ass kicked before I leave. If Clutch played Army of Bono after Spacegrass that would have been awesome.

Still better than the end of the Motorhead show when they played. They closed w/ Let A Poor Man Be. Easily the oddest choice I've seen for a closing song by Clutch. I love that song, it was the first time I'd seen it, but that as a last song kinda killed it a little bit. Even fairly good set from Clutch is still better than alot of other stuff I've seen!!!!

Personally, I love the song "Let a Poor Man Be", but I can see your point because it's not a "classic", and therefore supposedly not a great encore. I'd love to get it somewhere in the set, though.

Hell even "classic" is not even really what bothers me, I could find a bunch of newer stuff I'd be cool w/ them closing w/ but it just seemed off. Had they thrown in Pure Rock Fury at the end than in the middle I prob would have left a little more satisfied.

Agree Spacegrass is bad ass but would be cooler as maybe the first encore followed by something more upbeat. Army of Bono is my favorite Clutch song and that would be a great encore. I've only seen them play that once on the Blast Tyrant tour. I am hoping that when they reissue Blast Tyrant in a couple months maybe they'll go out and play that whole album.

You did get open up the border! havent seen that since the pure rock fury tour. now if they'll only drop Piledriver or Sea of destruciton back in for a while...
