I've just noticed that often times when European bands come to America, they dumb down their setlists - laying off of rotation, and sticking much more closely to the aforementioned staples/hits/classics. Saxon in 2009 was the biggest case of this I've ever seen. Still an incredible show, but seriously. |

Edguy seems to be another band that dumbs down their set for America, they always seem to play songs like Tears of a Mandrake and not play deeper songs like Until We Rise Again like they did in Europe.

Yep. They played The motherfucking Pharaoh in Europe in 2009 and dumped it for America. They also have only played The Piper Never Dies three times on American soil.

And the Story Ends is quite possibly my favourite BG song. I thought the Toronto set was good, but I would have taken And the Story Ends over And Then There Was Silence anytime.

I wish they would play more songs of At the Edge of Time... isn't this the tour for the album afterall? Even with that said - this is BLIND GUARDIN, which is a show I will always enjoy even if they leave some songs I'd prefer to hear.

Yes, the reason Euro bands "dumb down" setlists on US tours is because American audiences are dumb. Has nothing to do with them touring in Europe 10x more and crowds having more of a chance to catch their favorite bands and hearing their favorite songs.
Bands play 'staple' sets in America because they don't tour here often, so they try to play the songs most people want to hear. It'd be cool to hear some deep cuts. Don't expect it. |
