Every Time I Die -- Atlanta, GA -- November 7th, 2010

This was one of the craziest shows I've ever been to. The place was PACKED, and it was clear that pretty much everybody was there for ETID, There really weren't that many obvious metalheads. That, and some hardcore kids for Trap Them and hipsters for Howl (they're easy to spot, too -- short hair, hoodie, often a beard)

Howl wasn't bad. They were loud as hell, like most sludge/doom bands are live. I had to move to the very back, actually. Still, they had nothing on Batillus or Zoroaster in terms of loudness.
I have no idea what the set was; all the songs sounded exactly the same. There’s a set from the NYC show up at BrooklynVegan, though, if any of you are interested.

Trap Them was next. At first they had some technical difficulties but then they cleared them up. The sound still wasn't perfect, though. However, they did impress me live, just maybe not to the extent I hoped. “Mission Convincers” was really good and did not disappoint. I've listened to Seizures in Barren Praise a bunch of times but I still only recognized 2-4 songs from there. They played for about a half hour.

Anyways, I'm trying to find out what songs they played right now, and well, I guess I'm not very good at this. Every single song I listen to, I automatically think they played, and that's obviously not the case. Here are the songs I KNOW they played:
Fucking Viva (opener)
Pulse Mavens
Carnage Incanerate
Mission Convincers (closer)

The songs I THINK they played:
Flesh and Below
Guignol Serene
Invertopeia/30-day warmth
Targets (I think they usually play this right after “Fucking Viva”)
Angles Anonymous in Transit (pretty sure Ryan announced this, not positive though)
Reincarnation of Lost Lones
Dead Fathers
Degenerate Binds
*they probably played something from Sleepwell, but I dunno because I hate that album...*

ETID came on stage and immediately ripped shit up. They definitely have a sense of humor; when the lights went off, a country song began playing loudly over the PA, and then they went right into "After One Quarter." I would've figured that they would start with "Roman Holiday," as that is would make a more epic first song I think (they opened with it on their tour with Bring Me The Anal Lube), but it worked well. They did play "Roman Holiday" later and it was awesome. They of course followed up with "Marvelous Slut."

As I said this was a really crazy crowd. I didn't mosh at all but I was in the crowd rush, constantly pushing past people to the stage, being shoved all around. You'd expect that with this sort of exercise and the fact that everybody was constantly screaming along, I wouldn't hear the band very well. It’s true that if I was farther back I'd probably hear the band better, but the show still managed to be awesome. The band still sounded great and loud.

Since ETID got rained out at Warped, they played two songs for us that "they don't usually play." I was hoping for “INrihab,” but nope. They played the Nirvana cover they were doing on Warped (Tourettes) and "Cities and Years." Cities wasn't particularly amazing live, which is weird because it's an awesome song on record. I would've exchanged both of those for "For the Record," which they've been playing on other dates on this tour, but I'm cool with it.

There wasn't as much stagediving as I thought there would be, but it picked up later, especially during “Floater.” People started jumping off the railing into the crowd at one point Bunch of crowdsurfing, no surprise there. I probably could've hoisted myself up if I really wanted to, or at least asked someone to pick me up, but whatever. Anyways, this was an amazing show and really full of energy; everybody was just going fucking apeshit the whole time. It's too bad that most metal shows probably pale in comparison in the energy aspect. Don’t take that the wrong way or anything; maybe I just haven’t been to enough proper metal shows to compare.

I can’t really remember the order, sadly. The first two songs are in the right place, and the last song is too. As I said above, “Marvelous” followed “Roman” and “Cities” followed “Tourettes.” I know what songs were played in the beginning, middle, and end, but not the exact order or anything.

After One Quarter of a Revolution
We'rewolf
Bored Stiff
She's My Rushmore
Wanderlust
No Son of Mine
Roman Holiday
The Marvelous Slut
Tourettes
Cities and Years
I Been Gone A Long Time
Apocalypse Now and Then
The New Black (surprisingly very good for a song I don’t really like on record)
Who Invited The Russian Soldier?
Ebolorama
Floater

Also, if you read all of this, please leave a comment or something so I know I didn't waste my time writing this. I hate when that happens. Thanks guys.

Good review man. Every Time I Die is great live and that is a pretty killer set from them. I missed the show down in Providence last tuesday, which is shame because I also really want to see Howl.

Nice review. And you're right, I've been to a few shows like that and they're pretty insane. Not that many metal shows have that sort of energy.

I saw ETID back in 05 on Sounds Of The Underground I do believe, was a good show. Never heard Howl before but I bet Trap Them was crazy.

Thanks guys. Yup, I really liked their set- they played my favorite songs from the new album, and everything else I expected. I'm sure they'll be in your area soon, though, so don't worry about it. And yeah, hardcore shows tend to have more energy than metal shows.

definitely agree. i saw comeback kid and four year strong the other week, and the energy and crowd pretty much beat most of the metal shows i've been to.

Oh so I guess I was pretty much right then as far as Seizures goes. You should've posted a review man!
