Helmet -- Cleveland, OH -- October 13th, 2010

Venue: Peabody's
Source: Me

Helmet is one of my all time favorites. This was my third time seeing them and it may have been the best! Intronaut opened. Second time seeing them and they were awesome once again.

There were a few surprises (good and bad) from Helmet's set but it was an overall awesome show:

He Feels Bad
So Long
Exactly What You Wanted
Welcome to Algiers
Distracted
Ironhead
Smart
In Person
Tic
Crisis King
Repetition
Wilma's Rainbow
Milquetoast
-------------------
Driving Nowhere
Blacktop

Like I said, good and bad surprises. Tons of old stuff, but no In The Meantime or Unsung. Having seen them play these two before and never hearing Tic, Distracted, Crisis King or He Feels Bad makes is a good trade off to me.

Holy shit no Unsung or ITM. I atleast think even though they are their more popular songs you can't go wrong hearing them or not. Probably their most all over the place set I've seen out of them in a long time. I'm surprised they didn't play Seeing Eye Dog at all. Their new album doesn't have a whole lot of real upbeat songs but that one still crushes.

I'm sure So Long is a good song live but how do the other songs translate live? They took me awhile to grow on me. I'm still hating life I couldn't go to them on this tour but hoping it will have maybe spring dates or something. I still think they are one of the more consistent live acts and one of the best and switching their sets up everynight. Of course I will gladly admit to being fanboy so I am VERY biased w/ them.

The new songs were good live. They have great drive to them and I think that's what lends themselves to being good live. They fit Helmet's live mentality. The one song that I wanted to hear that was not played was Miserable. My favorite song on the new album. Also, the one I'd love to hear that they didn't do even on their last tour was Brand New.
