Wormrot -- Atlanta, GA -- September 25th, 2010

This was Day 2 (final day) of the Forward to the Apocalypse fest.

Phobia
Maruta
Wormrot
Spewtilator
Beeravore

Beeravore was a "beer-influenced" death metal band. They were pretty good. Their song titles had to do with beer, naturally. They had a "political" song that was called "Beer on Sunday"

It was almost two hours until the next local band, Spewtilator, came on. They were a very heavy, dirty, sometimes punky death-thrash band. They played a little too long for their slot but I enjoyed them nevertheless.

Then it was time for the touring bands. During the wait, I was hanging out with a bunch of drunk people, one of whom kept expressing his amazement and appreciation that a kid my age was wearing a Brutal Truth t-shirt. To be fair, I do look a lot younger than I actually am. Another drunk guy saw my shirt while walking past me, paused, and said "Brutal truth sucks!" Then he corrected himself by saying, "No, they don't suck; they just kinda suck. You know what I mean?"

Wormrot was up first. They kicked my ass live. Period. I think grindcore really transfers over well live, but goddamn, Wormrot knows how to put on a performance. There were about 20-25 people crammed up right against the one-foot stage. Also, best moshing of my life. Seriously.
They played all of their Abuse album and five or six new songs (from their just-released split with I Abhor). The new songs were awesome.
They only played 25-30 minutes but this was still one of the most fun, intimate performances I've ever seen. I'm also surprised they sounded so good, being that they only have one guitarist, one vocalist, and one drummer.

Maruta was next. While not as good as Wormrot, Maruta was pretty amazing as well. Not as many people for them, naturally. They have more of a deathgrind style but they played/sounded like a grindcore band. Not as much moshing, but there were guys running on stage and jumping off the other side, and the vocalist was more involved with the crowd (though the Wormrot vocalist did jump into the crowd).
I had to leave halfway through their set, which means I didn't catch Phobia Oh well -- I hadn't listened to uch of them anyway, but from what I've heard, they're amazing. elturtle, manks, wizzbang, can you guys back this up? (you guys seem to be the resident grind experts here, besdies me of course ). Are they much better than Wormrot? Did I totally miss out?

All in all, an incredible show. I need to see some more grind bands live, pronto.

I knew the turnout wasn't gonna be some were expecting but I thought it would be better. I could of sworn some people were just sitting outside the whole time. There was definitely more people inside for Wormrot than Phobia.

Spewtilator was good...never saw them before.

Wormrot was the best of the night definitely.

Maruta was OK but the feedback in between songs was unbearable so I sat outside for most of their set.

Phobia was better this time than the Drunken Unicorn show but I think the energy could have been better with more than 2 rows of people.

Really good show though...I had fun.

And I think I know what drunk guy you're talking about. He was getting all philosophical on me and making no sense and being a douche...but making me laugh. We messed with him when he was passed out sleeping.

Yeah there were tons of people outside, I was sure they were there for Phobia.

I admit Maruta's feedback did make me hold my ears.

There were lots of drunk people. And that circus was totally fucked up.

Yeah the sideshow was pointless. This guy begged me to watch him snort a BB and make it come out of his tear duct.
