Amazon Student Program - Free 1 year of Amazon Prime for college students

Update:
It appears that if you bolt this on to an existing Prime membership, your membership is refunded back in a pro-rated fashion, and your sub starts over again, one year from the date you sign up.

Original post:
Looks like Amazon is rolling out a new program for college students, Amazon Student. The main benefit is one year free Amazon Prime, and it requires a .edu email address.

Here's the teaser from the main page:

Amazon Prime free for one year ($79 value)
Unlimited FREE Two-Day Shipping on textbooks and millions of other items
No minimum order size
Upgrades to One-Day shipping for $3.99/item

E-mail alerts for exclusive deals and promotions
It's free for students - sign up by providing your school and major

Terms & Conditions:

Update #2:
Let's clear up a few things:

* You can't add anyone to a Prime account that doesn't share the same physical address as the account holder. Anything else is violation of the Amazon Prime agreement, and I'm sure Amazon will have no qualms about hitting you with a $79 charge for violating this agreement.

Amazon will be more than happy to close this down if it gets abused, and they've stated clearly that they can ask for proof of your college student status, plus they will be happy to bill you for abuse of the free Amazon Prime membership.

Let's not screw this up for the people that are able to get this perk. If you value the benefits of Prime, it's $6.59 per month.

Update #3:
Some people that have a @subdomain.domain.edu email address for their email address may have issues with Amazon recognizing their email address as valid, as they may be thinking they're "alumni" addresses for some reason. Amazon does state clearly that alumni addresses don't work, so if you do have an email address that's a @subdomain.domain.edu and not a @domain.edu address, you may need to break out proof of student status for them to recognize it.

Also, double-check your spam filters for their reply email to signing up for the service, since it might be spam-like in nature for some spam filters.
