I always pictured it that way, and figured the drug use, emotional instability and all that those things lead to were due to the Metallica situation and the reason Dave has pumped out better music in the long run. It's pretty hard to write angry music after making a 22x platinum album and most of your problems are solved by an endless amount of money.
