I just don't see why you have to equate taste with talent. If you don't like death metal, no harm there, not many people do. But pretending that it's easy to be a good death metal vocalist is ridiculous.

I do like Death Metal. I also enjoy Black Metal - the quick tempo change in Ye Entrancemperium is one of the great Metal moments of all time.

But this thread title is about musical truth rather than taste/opinion. And the musical truth is that for the most part, singing>growling. Heck, even the most talented growler of all time (Akerfeldt) seems to enjoy singing more than roaring.

I didn't say that. Being a good/great death metal vocalist is one thing (though I'm still not convinced there is such a thing), but being a passable one seems WAY fucking easier than being a passable/entry level melodic singer that can be taken seriously.

I mean, I am willing to concede that there are different styles of growling that one may prefer over others (even I have some preference), but aside from random people who just completely suck and lack vocal endurance (note: NOT lack of musical ability), it just seems so much easier to "get by" as a growler.

Yeah, I get that you enjoy death and black metal, I guess I just don't see your argument the same way you do. Heck, if you pressed me I might say that it's harder to do extreme vocals well, but I don't really wanna pick one or the other.

It probably should be noted that there is no 'better' form of music (art is subjective after all). I do think it is rather pointless to argue musical truth, because it's nearly impossible to define anything in music as truthful - it isn't a science or math where 1+1=2.

Therefore I say, change the thread title to 'controversial opinions you state to piss other music lovers off'.
