I'm really glad you and mastodon420 have no say in picking MDF lineups.
The reason that festival stands out to me is that it gets actually decent bands that wouldn't play shows even close to the size without it, and for the most part stays away from the mainstream crap that fills most festivals.

Jesus, purist much? Lots of "mainstream crap" is just as unsuccessful commercially as what ends up at MDF. Converge are playing there this year, they're notably "aboveground," but would you say they don't deserve to be there because they're "too big?" I wouldn't.

And I don't like Converge so don't make it about that...I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with having some "bigger" bands who play a style of music that suits the festival. Hell, Obituary played last year, right? And Sodom are there this year? Those bands are known to just about everyone in metal, and I think there should be a good half dozen bands of their status ever year. I still wanna see all the smaller bands, of course, but there's no reason to kick the big kids out.
