Van Halen II was in 1979.
I also knew Maiden was gonna be #1. What I didn't know was that it was gonna be Killers. Furthermore, Heaven & Hell can still suck my big black ass.

I'm determined not to overthink this, at least for the time being. So, I just jotted down all the albums I thought, off the top of my head, would rightfully be considered for this list if I were to really make it. This is what I came up with, listed alphabetically:
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease (1985) Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (1980) Black Sabbath - The Headless Cross (1988) Blue Murder - Blue Murder (1989) Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1988) Dio - Holy Diver (1983) Dio - The last in line (1984) Dio - Dream Evil (1987) Dokken - Tooth and Nail (1984) Dream Theater - When Dream and Day Unite (1989) Fates Warning - Perfect Symmetry (1989) Helloween - Keeper of the 7 Keys Part I (1987) Helloween - Keeper of the 7 Keys Part II (1988) Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind (1983) Iron Maiden - Powerslave (1984) Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time (1986) Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) Journey - Frontiers (1983) King's X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (1988) Metal Church - Blessing in Disguise (1988) Moore, Gary - Wild Frontier (1987) Overkill - The Years of Decay (1989) Riot - Fire Down Under (1981) Riot - Thundersteel (1988) Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King (1987) Savatage - Gutter Ballet (1989) Saxon - Strong Arm of the law (1980) Saxon - Denim and leather (1982) Tesla - Mechanical Resonance (1986) Tesla - The Great Radio Controversy (1989) Thin lizzy - Thunder and lightning (1983) WASP - WASP (1984) Whitesnake - Whitesnake (1987) Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force - Odyssey (1988) ... more or less. Hundreds? Not likely. Considering I'm going to guess you've only really heard about 1,000 albums total, I highly doubt several hundred of them deserve to be top 20 in the 80s alone.

But I bet I could make a top 100 from the 80s and think every record on it was at least good.
