Between the Buried and Me -- Atlanta, GA -- January 9th, 2010

I arrived about halfway into Scale the Summit's set, I think. After they finished that song, they played a couple more:

The Great Plains
Dunes
Omni (one of the guys said they had never played it before live. It was the best song they played).

While the band was definitely very talented, I honestly thought they were pretty boring.

--

Next, Devin Townsend. Unfortunately he had technical problems during his set and he had to skip a few songs. He solved the problem by playing the click track, the metronome, which was fucking annoying as hell.

He was very disappointing live. I don't even like his music, but my friend, who worships Devy, thought he sucked, too.

Disruptor (Ki)
Supercrush! (Addicted)
something from Terria or Ocean machine?
ZTO (Ziltoid)
By Your Command (Ziltoid)

I gotta give him points though, he was grinning the entire time and cracking jokes. He said he had no idea what he was doing, that it was so hard playing live after three years.

--

Cynic were very good. I closed my eyes for a lot of the set and just took in the sweet sounds of Cynic. They impressed me very much.

I know they played 'Evolutionary Sleeper,' 'The Space for This,' and 'Integral Birth.' Most of the other stuff was also probably from Traced in Air. They may have played 'Veil of Maya,' I dunno.

--

Finally, Between the Buried and Me. My friend and I rushed the stage during the first notes of 'Obfuscation.' This proved to be a stupid idea. For the next 9 minutes I was never in the same place. I kept being rammed into and I was doing the same. While it was going, I had a fun time, but after that song I was sore and moved back behind the pit. (I later learned that the area in front of the pit is the worst, as it is mostly teenage fanboys who are like "OMG I want to touch the band!!!1" Indeed, every crowdsurfer I saw was like 15).

The band was very entertaining and heavy, but everything sounded the fucking same. I swear. It was getting on my nerves.

The setlist was the same as the previous night:
Obfuscation
Disease, Injury, Madness
More of Myself to Kill
Ants of the Sky
Alaska
Swim to The Moon

White Walls

I had to leave before White Walls, which sucked because it's like their best song, but honestly I was getting kind of tired of them anyway. The fans are so annoying. There weren't any scene kids really, but half of the audience were teenagers, and honestly I hate seeing other teenagers at metal shows because they don't really have any sense of etiquette. Like they won't pick you up if you fall down. I was actually on the floor on my belly for a whole minute with people standing nearly on top of me but nobody helped me up, and when I finally got myself up people were staring at me...

--

In conclusion, it was an alright concert.

I think you're generalizing a bit, but I know what you mean. I'm still young, but I've been to shows where so many people my age are fucking retarded. I've been at shows where people fall over and people just sit there. It is relieving a bit to me though for you to say it was alright, because I can't make my show, and I've been super bummed out about it.

Yeah, I'm 17. The guys that usually pick you up in the pit are the real metalheads, correct? There really aren't many teenagers who are real metalheads, they mostly just listen to deathcore and metalcore. (I know I'm generalizing on that, too)

But yeah, I don't think the show was everything everybody made it out to be. You shouldn't fret over missing it.

They did Alaska after Ants in Atlanta.

I'm also 17 but i am very polite and respectful at shows. If kids i pick them up If I bump into someone by accident I apologize It's just the right thing to do. I surprisngly haven't too many bad incidents in pits or at shows people here in MA are mostly pretty cool.

I tend to do the same mostly. I think most of btbam's fans weren't really big metal fans anyway. I barely saw any longhairs, and there were a bunch of non-black/non-band t-shirts.

Ditto on what I've seen in both MA and CT. Wonderfully nasty pits - generally decent people. Of course, if you head West to a certain other nearby venue you run into the "crowd bashers," who, as far as I can tell are also teens.

Meddlesome whippersnappers have no respect for their elders!
