Alright, before my train of thought totally derails, a few comments:
Overall, I thought the movie was really terrific. It was a big task taking on an adaptation of a book with less than forty pages and very few words, but I think Spike Jonze conquered the task. Pros: -Not a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan, but Karen O's soundtrack was brilliant every step of the way. This might be the movie whose soundtrack best matches its visuals. Ever. Seriously. -Aesthetically it was absolutely beautiful. I don't know what was on location, what was on a backlot, and what was on a green screen, but it was totally seamless, and beautiful. -The famous lines were kept, some in the same context, others not, but all were magnificently adapted. -This movie has a lot of heart. I almost cried. Cons: -My favorite scene in the book is when the walls of Max's room turn to vines and a forest grows in his bedroom, and the style of the movie would have been perfect for that. Unfortunately, Jonze cut it. -Uhhh...that's about it. Great movie.
