I both agree and disagree on a few points.

I felt Allegiance was by far their best album to date, and I don't feel The Premonition is nearly their heaviest album to date, possibly the least heaviest on the whole if you ask me. I actually feel for the most part like The Premonition comes off like a weaker version of Allegiance.

I do think it's a very good album, and I too noticed the Dio and Police-isms on the respective tracks you mentioned them for. And yeah, the Maniac cover is both surprisingly metal and surprisingly good.

Interesting... I think it's way heavier than Forged By Fire, for example. And Allegiance. They were intending it to be their heaviest yet, and I think they achieved that.

For me I don't think Allegiance covered enough ground. Everything on it was very 'Firewind', so the reason I mostly think The Premonition is a little better is because they tried, and pulled off, some new ideas which I felt were missing from Allegiance.

Well I somewhat take back what I said. Allegiance is definitely their least heavy album now that I think about it.
To me Allegiance was the perfection of the formula they had been trying for up until that time. All 3 prior albums have their moments but none of them really satisfied me as a whole, whereas I can honestly say I really love every track on Allegiance and never tire of any of them.

I certainly agree with that. It's the most "Firewind" of their records Like Apollo was the last piece of the puzzle.

Yeah, the bouncing lineups made the previous albums suffer...
The 5 guys there now work absolutely brilliantly together and I hope (and think) they will stay together a long time.

imo the premonition is the best album they have
