Iced Earth -- Tempe, AZ -- November 7th, 2008

This show was amazing. Band was dead on, Barlow was singing like a freaking beast, even on the Ripper songs. Any signs of sickness from earlier in the tour were gone. Only thing that bothered me was that the show was way overamped and not in a good way either. But other than that this show kicked ass. Definite highlights for me were Vengeance is Mine, Pure Evil and Melancholy. I also enjoyed Early Man, who was the main support for this show.

Iced Earth setlist:

In Sacred Flames
Behold the Wicked Child
Motivation of Man
Setian Massacre
Burning Times
Declaration Day
Vengeance is Mine
Ten Thousand Strong
Stormrider
Pure Evil
Watching Over Me
Coming Curse
I Walk Alone
Dracula
High Water Mark
-----------------------
Melancholy (Holy Martyr)
My Own Savior
Iced Earth

I was there and I know what you mean about the overamped. It took away from the show in the beginning when your entire body was moving to each amp wave that shot out through the crowd. It seemed to get a little better as the night went on. One other minor complaint, since it was so overamped, it was hard to hear Barlow sometimes. But the band was smoking and what I liked the most, no BS, just one song after the other.

yeah it did get better. during vengeance, pure evil and stormrider is where i thought the sound was best. yeah i could barely hear barlow as well until he screamed and my eardrums started ringing like crazy lol and i was kinda suprised on how fast they went thru the set. they went thru the first four songs, said hello and blazed thru like 3 more it was kickass

Is it really that lonely in Kansas that you're going to see a band you're not even familar with?

How do you think someone is a "must-see" band if you're not familar with any of their material? Even if I was in your situation I would've at least bought or downloaded a compilation, live album, or normal album(s) or something to at least familiarize myself with some of the material.
Take it from someone who learned the hard way. NOTHING is worse than being unfamilar with a band when you see them, loving the show, and then never getting to see them again once you really get into them, or something of that variety.

I did download that Alive In Athens CD. I mean, I'm not going to be able to hear a song and go "Oh, that's *so and so song*"

And I've seen unfamiliar bands and i loved them still.

To answer your question it is that lonely in Kansas. I married early to avoid dying alone!
