Masters of Metal -- Homdel, NJ -- August 9th, 2008
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan oh man what a great night, hahahaha. I went with Brady (Overkiller), Mike (Div), and our good friend Matt. Also met a few friends from my school there. We left my house around 2 and stopped at a deli a few minutes until a trip where we had sandwiches ... these sandwiches would be the last things we really ate for the next 13 hours. Due to some traffic, we didn't end up getting there until around 4 - 4:15, where we just hung out and did some good old tailgating. I believe the gig started at 5:30, however we were a tiny bit late to get in because my friend from school had mine and Matt's ticket but he showed up a bit late, so we got in about half way through Testament's set ... which really doesn't bother me because I'm not really a Testament fan.
But anyway, about 15 minutes later Testament hit the road and Motorhead was being set up. I only have the Ace of Spades album, so I didn't really know alot of their set, but they were still pretty cool. Especially since Lemmy is, well, Lemmy, and it was very cool to see him there in person. Their set was pretty cool, it didn't get really too exciting until Mickey D did a badass 5 minute drum solo and then Killed By Death, and then the crowd was really getting rowdy. All in all Motorhead was pretty cool. Then came out Heaven & Hell. I couldn't believe I was watching Ronnie James Dio, one of the greatest singers of all time (along with Robbie Halford, who was up next ) right there in front of me. It was really cool and their set was pretty badass. The band sounded great, Dio was spot on, Iommi was really workin' that guitar like I'd never seen anyone do before. So yeah, H&H was pretty good ... but they were still no match for the Metal Gods themselves ....Judas F. Priest. My second favorite band of all time, who sadly I had never gotten to see live before. But my god, did they put on a show. The band themselves sounded great, and their mixing was done perfectly, everything sounded clear. And Rob, wow, Rob Halford was singing like it was nobody else's business. He sounded amazing, and he was hitting screams I had never heard anyone belt out before, not even himself on the JFP albums! Absolutely incredible, it was an awesome gig. So we got out of there at around 11. On the ride home, at around 12:15, we're about half an hour from home and on Route 80, the biggest highway in the country ... and all of a sudden, Matt's car jerks and his 'Check Engine' and Oil lights come on and he can't accelerate or anything, so we have to roll across 3 lanes over to the side of the highway. His fan belt broke, so we were stranded on the highway. Matt call's his dad to come get us, but since we were a while from home we were just hanging out there for a good 45 minutes. It was very frustrating, but hilarious at the same time. I got a bunch of good pictures of that, haha. Speaking of pictures, I took so many, but unfortunately alot of them came out dark or blurry, but the good ones I've uploaded and posted below, as well as a video I took of Hell Bent for Leather. Setlists were the same: Testament: Over The Wall The New Order Practice What You Preach Souls of Black More Than Meets The Eye The Formation of Damnation Motorhead: Dr. Rock Stay Clean Be My Baby The Killers Metropolis Over The Top In The Name Of Tragedy (with awesome drum solo) Just 'Cos You Got The Power Going To Brazil Killed By Death Ace Of Spades Overkill Heaven & Hell: E5150 The Mob Rules Children Of The Sea I The Sign of the Southern Cross Drum Solo Time Machine Falling Off The Edge Of The World Die Young Heaven And Hell (extended version) Judas Priest: Dawn Of Creation Prophecy Metal Gods Eat Me Alive Between The Hammer And The Anvil Devil's Child Breaking The Law Hell Patrol Dissident Aggressor Angel The Hellion / Electric Eye Rock Hard, Ride Free Painkiller --ENCORE-- Hell Bent For Leather The Green Manalishi You've Got Another Thing Coming Video I took of Hell Bent for Leather: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlLEYJDloHw Pictures: Brady, Matt, and Mike - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Metal/Deli.jpg Testament - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Testament1.jpg Motorhead - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Motorhead1.jpg Motorhead (Mickey D drum solo) - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Motorhead2.jpg Motorhead - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Motorhead3.jpg Heaven & Hell - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...enandHell1.jpg Heaven & Hell - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...enandHell2.jpg Heaven & Hell - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...enandHell3.jpg Heaven & Hell - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...enandHell4.jpg Judas Priest - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dasPriest1.jpg Judas Priest - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dasPriest2.jpg Judas Priest - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dasPriest3.jpg Judas Priest - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dasPriest4.jpg Judas Priest - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dasPriest5.jpg Broken down, calling for help - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Stranded1.jpg Broken down, calling for help - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Stranded2.jpg Broken down, chillin' out - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Stranded3.jpg Matt in a deep depression about his car - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Stranded5.jpg Matt delusional, rolling around with a metal rod with a rock tied to it he found - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Stranded6.jpg

Very awesome show. I wished every band had much more time, but I guess that's how I was bound to feel with four good bands in one night.

I agree with the above, great night, I was there for Priest really, and was not disappointed. Best (short) show ever (28 yrs a fan). I think a few years off and not touring together have done them well.
Super tight and sounded clear as can be. -Scott Travis was strong and kicking; he looks a bit more muscled too. -KK shined and finally got the spotlight, Thank God, MANY fantastic solos -Rob was crisp and poised (kiss on US flag at end was interesting, considering the dearth of anything not metal out of Priest ever/dude is a patriot?) -Song Highlight for me; 'Hell Patrol' was off the charts - Glenn nailed his solo/Rob was a beast, 'Painkiller' a close second, great revised drum start up at beginning - another killer. Show seemed shortened to make the 11pm noise ordinance, with homes nearby, having the new 'Death' song deleted was probably a blessing, and would have been mis-fit in the middle. I am looking forward to the Nostradamus tour, though real left turn, I have listened to it several times and am amazed at the talent of Glenn/KK/Rob and Scott (Ian we love you too/no worries). The show should be something different and special based on JP's intense passion invested in that work (3 years in the making and waiting for them to get back out on the road/ and very little news in between). I would love to hear how the rest of the Metal Masters tour goes. NJ/NY fans were awesome in Homdel - quite a devouted bunch. Last, Dio and H&H really kicked ass in their our different groove and deserve to be seen by themselves (Hat off to MH and Tsment - excellent also). |

Seriously, my jealousy is at a huge peak right now. You're wearing a Savatage shirt while in a photo with a mindblowing guitarist who played with them. |

I am really sorry that you're jealous, mate. If I didn't sneak down then I would have not met him. I guess you can call it luck of the draw. I am sure you will meet him one day though. Him and Bobby Blitz have proven to me that people of his stature can still take some time out to meet and greet their fans.
