Big Noize -- Allentown, PA -- March 28th, 2008
For those of you that haven't heard about this project (which I'm assuming is most of you), Big Noize is a cover/tribute project of sorts. The difference is that all of the members involved are all connected to the songs they play... which is basically your standard set of 70s/80s hard rock staple songs. The band is:
Joe Lynn Turner - Vocals (Rainbow, Yngwie, Deep Purple, etc)
Carlos Cavoza - Guitars (Quiet Riot)
Vinnie Appice - Drums (Dio, Black Sabbath)
Phil Sousan (spelling probably wrong) - Bass (Ozzy, etc)
There was also a keyboard player, but I honestly don't remember his name.
Anyway, my friends and I got there a little late because our radio show runs until 9 and doors opened at 8. We were lucky enough to miss 1 and a half opening bands of the 3 total. There was an unusually long wait before the band come on, wound up being like 11:20-ish I believe.
The set was really cool. Most of the songs they did have been kind of degraded by the many years of pointless flogging by classic rock radio, but as a whole most of the songs are still great when you're in the mood. Sound at the venue as usual was horrible, but the band played quite well, and definitely put on a very entertaining show. Not a ton to say really, just a very fun show.
Just as I was hopping, the band were cool enough to do a free open meet and greet after the show. I was really really excited to get to meet Vinnie Appice (a second time) and Joe Lynn Turner, who's probably among my top 10 or so singers. Really nice guys, I can't say enough about them.
Set list (do your best to follow, there was a lot of songs "within" songs and spontanious solos, etc):
The Mob Rules (Black Sabbath)
Crazy Train (Ozzy)
Rainbow in the Dark (Dio)
Stone Cold (Rainbow)
Shot in the Dark (Ozzy)
Street of Dreams (Rainbow)
Last in Line (Dio)
Drum Solo (Vinnie Appice)
Cum On Feel the Noise (Quiet Riot)
Bang Your Head (Metal Health) (Quiet Riot)
-Bass Solo (Phil Sousan)
-Ready For Love (Bad Company)
Bang Your Head Reprise (Quiet Riot)
Highway Star (Deep Purple)
Long Live Rock N' Roll (Rainbow)
-Guitar Solo (Carlos Cavoza)
-Tush (ZZ Top)
Long Live Rock N' Roll Reprise (Rainbow)
sounds like a cool show to see.
I'd definitely go if those guys came to Dallas.
