Dream Theater "Chaos in motion" European fall tour opening show
Symphony X (Warmup act) "Paradise lost" European tour opening show

I knew SymphX was the opening act, but was kinda hoping they would have hit a slightly bigger set... This one lasted for 34 minutes, and it sounded like 32 of those minutes their mixer was asleep. Too bad... Anyway, Allen is still one badass vocalist.

If SX didn't have all under control, you can guess DT did. Awesome show! It's funny that the main set's closing song, Ministry of lost souls didn't do much on the album, but here it worked like a charm... *Goosebumps from just thinking about it*... Great show, there's nothing more I can say.

Edit: Setlist for DT in Stockholm Sep 28th exactly the same (?!).

Man, I'm actually really excited to see Dream Theater next year. They've grown on me like hell.

That SX set list sucks. Their headling US tour set list wasn't that much better. At least they're playing the title track from the new album, the only song that saves it from being a complete dissapointment.

yeah i agree SX setlist would have sucked that night. they could have played a few more classics instead of having half the show from Paradise Lost (which is still a badass album) they didnt even play evolution. :'( im also not very impressed with DT setlist either. no metropolis or pull me under??

My thoughts exactly, was hoping to hear a bigger set from SX, which would have included Evolution and The Odyssey (well, the last one would have been a lottery win, considering they were an opening act)... And Metropolis would have been nice to hear from DT, but well, you can't always win.
Anyway, I think Systematic Chaos is an awesome album and it deserved its space in the set...

Great gig all the same, LaBrie had a classic eighties-heavy-moment... He was spreading his legs (Sounds perverted but I hope you know what I mean) to give the piece they were playing some attitude when his pants ripped open from the crotch! :P
His first reaction (as we saw it): "Is my wiener out in the open?"... When the next solo started he went backstage and came out with a towel taped around his waist!

As I said, great show, even without metropolis...

what amazes me most about dream theater is that they can play so many different songs in a tour, which would be cool for alot of other bands to do, but to memmorize that many long and intricate songs is insane
not to mention their playing abilities

I think the SX Europe support setlist is entirely sensible. They're promoting a new (excellent) album. So it makes perfect sense to play a bunch of stuff from that album and close with a couple of older ones. It's what every band does when they're touring a new album.

And why should DT play Metropolis and Pull Me Under? They play them all the time. They've got hours of material. Why play the same songs every tour? They're not Status Quo.

Yeah, they do change up a lot, but even that is nothing compared to the likes of The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule, The Allman Brothers Band etc. They play a 100% different setlist every night. Never the same set twice in a row, and in the case of Mule, never the same set in the same city two tours in a row.

I totally agree all bands with a decent sized back catalogue should do this.
