I think that the incident you are referring to was when Jethro beat out Metallica for the first heavy metal grammy. I think the song nominated was "One" so it had to be after Justice was released. Maybe 1989?

Oh yeah, it was the VH1's Least Metal Moments, and they said it was really unmetal that nothing from Appetite for Destruction was nominated but Jethro Tull won.
