Yngwie Malmsteen -- Allentown, PA -- May 10th, 2006
Well, here's my review of the Yngwie show.
Doors opened almsot a half hour late, so we werent inside until almost 7:30... I passed on merchandise since shirts were $35. The opening band was Orange Sky, they play about a half hour set. They were definately unique. They were overal just a straight up hard rock band, but at times you could really tell these guys were from Trinidad and Tobago. Not bad, but I'm no Orange Sky fan now.
Yngwie was on sometime around 9 I believe. I was front row, center. All in all, I was really surprised. I thought the show was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Yngwie was out of control, but what else could you expect really. The backing band sounded very solid and excellent, and Doogie's vocals were top notch. I got 3 guitar picks and a drum stick. All in all, I had a lot of fun, it was a great show.
Now I can't remember the set list exactly, but here's what I can remember in the order i remember it:
Cracking the Whip
Crown of Thorns
Dreaming (Tell Me)
Gates of Babylon
Winds of War
Boroque and Roll
You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget
I'll See the Light Tonight
and also, I met Derek Sherinian, Patrick Johansson, and very randomly... Mike Portnoy.
