The Black Dahlia Murder -- Birmingham, AL -- March 16th, 2014

TBDM are doing a few shows before the Decibel Magazine tour kicks off with Carcass. I wasn't a fan of TBDM at all, but when I heard about the show a few months ago, something told me to go and I'm glad I did.

Sunday night in Birmingham so I wasn't expecting much of a crowd, but they actually pulled in about 250 - 300 people which is good because we need more metal shows around here!

Ectovoid were openers of the show, and damn what a great way to start. This was my third time seeing them, but overall this was probably their best show that I've seen. The sound was much better than the other venues, and they played a little longer as well. If you're looking for a new death metal band to check out and you like Autopsy, Gorguts, and Immolation then give Ectovoid a listen. Trevor (TBDM) even mentioned them on stage about how good they were so here's one of their best songs, in my opinion, if you want to check them out:

1) Transcend into the Moonless Night
2) A Prisoner of Paradox
3) Emanating Spectral Vapor
4) Obscure
5) Locked in Dismal Gaze
6) Rituals of Hallucination
7) Chewing Through the Membranes of Time and Space

Noisem kicked off MDF last year, but I was unable to see them because of Derketa playing at the Sidebar a block away. So I knew they had to be some-what decent if they haven't even released anything at the time and are already playing at MDF, even though they're from Baltimore. That being said, I've never even listened to this band until tonight, but have wanted to check them out for a while. They have a totally different style than Ectovoid and TBDM, which isn't a bad thing at all and for some reason they remind me of Powertrip. They were really good, but just couldn't quite compete playing right after Ectovoid. Maybe I'll give them more of a fair judge when I see them again on Wednesday for the actual tour.

I picked up their album for $6 when they were finished playing, and on my way home I realized they played all but one song (Mortuary) from the album.

1) Voices in the Morgue
2) Birthing the Bestial
3) Desire and Disgust
4) Rotten Remains
5) Severed
6) Slaughter of the Innocent (Repulsion Cover)
7) A Skull Full of Maggots (Cannibal Corpse Cover)
8) Split from the Inside Out
9) Chronic Dementia
10) Agony Defined
11) Consuming [Unreleased song]

TBDM were about to come on, and I came to the show with an open mind. I've seen them before and didn't care for them one bit, but this time I had a good feeling about the show since I listened to them on album some. I guess for me what takes getting use to are the vocals. Always thought the music is heavy as fuck, but could never get into the vocals. However, tonight the vocals caught on to me and TBDM kicked ass.

They played right around an hour, had T-shirts for sell for $20 and CDs for $10 and you get a free poster. Got the CD, poster, and setlist signed by the band right after the show who were all really nice. Really glad I came to this show.

The Black Dahlia Murder:

1) In Hell Is Where She Waits for Me
2) Moonlight Equilibrium
3) On Stirring Seas of Salted Blood
4) Their Beloved Absentee
5) Statutory Ape
6) Necropolis
7) Den of the Picquerist
8) Phantom Limb Masturbation
9) What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse
10) I Will Return
11) Funeral Thirst
