Sometimes claiming you're 'giving up' is a reasonable reaction, even if it's rarely really the case. Grief can be very therapeutic, as is well known. Grief can also be a preventative of action, and one should be very wary of that. We mustn't let grief overcome the possibility of action.

Losing a pet can be devastating. A lot of us have been there. It's best to channel the emotion in some form and do something constructive with it. Like Efrim did with A Silver Mt. Zion's first album.
