Thumbs up Absu -- Seattle, WA -- April 25th, 2013

(Sorry if it seems like I am pulling this out of my ass, I only got 4 hours of sleep)

The Highline
Seattle, WA

Oh what a night. I have been waiting to see Absu again since their performance at MDF last year, and the night finally came . When this tour was first announced I almost shat myself.... and tried to get my band to open, but the booker didn't want to respond to me, and instead booked 3 bands that no one was familiar with (with the exception of one). The show took place at The Highline, which is kinda the Metal Hipster bar in Seattle, not my favorite place, but more and more shows are being booked there lately so I have had to go there. Anyway... enough back story...

My girlfriend and I got to the show late (around 10:30pm) since we had to run errands and such. When we got to the venue we saw Proscriptor out front, but a lot of people were talking to him, and I didn't want to come off as a huge fan boy . I think I have some sort of thing about not wanting to meet my influences, it adds to the "mystery" of them I guess . Anywho, we made it in time for the last of the locals, Cross. I have no idea who these guys are, I guess they're new, but I wasn't digging them. Very doomy, yet sludgy at the same time. I dunno, I am not a fan. The sound was muddy and I couldn't decipher one song from the next. I was hoping that if we were to catch any locals, it would have been Bone Sickness. They are a pretty cool Autopsy worship band. The other band, Old Skin, I had never heard of either.

After Cross finished their set we made our way to the front of the stage in preparation for the only band I really wanted to see.... the mighty, ABSU!!! The bands were running ahead of schedule, but that gave Absu a bit more time to set up and get ready, they started around 11:20pm, which had me worrying about when they'd be done, since it was a work night... BUT ONCE THEY STARTED NOT A SINGLE FUCK WAS GIVEN. I was in heaven, the sound was perfect, the playing was energetic and strong, and they played their hearts out. I didn't want it to end. Stone of Destiny... OMG, if only Proscriptor could drum AND be up front only doing vocals... . At the end of the set everyone was chanting Absu, yet they didn't come back out . Got home around 1:30am, and woke up at 6:30am... but totally worth it.

92 MINUTES OF SHEER MYTHOLOGICAL OCCULT METAL MADNESS MYSTICISM AND MAYHEM!!!!

(I feel like I am missing a song or two... but I could be wrong. In order for the most part)
The Waters-The Denizen
Apzu
Cyntefyn's Fountain
Night Fire Canonization
Manannan
Morbid Scream
Amy
Skrying in the Spirit Vision
Swords and Leather
Highland Tyrant Attack
Never Blow Out the Eastern Candle
Yrp Lluyddawc
From Ancient Times (Starless Skies Burn to Ash)
Four Crossed Wands (Spell 181)
Vorago (Spell 182)
Bron (of the Waves)
Stone of Destiny (...for Magh Slécht and Ard Righ)

The crowd was a bit of a bummer. No one really seemed to know who Absu was except for those of us up front, either that or everyone was just REALLY high . There was a very angry and violent pit about 3/8 thru their set, which pissed off a lot of people, thus it was stopped. Overall I had an amazing time and really want to see them again in Portland tonight, but alas, work tomorrow

Merch:
T-shirts were $15
Hoodie was $35
It looked like they had girl shirts, but I could be wrong, I'm guessing those were $15 as well.
