came out I enjoyed it at first, because it was so different, but looking back at it now it had very little staying power with me. The ideas behind it had potential, but the songwriting just wasn't there. It also lacked the catchy melodies that made Theogonia
so brilliant. Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού
seems to be a clear improvement, but at times it still falters in the same areas. "In Yumen - Xibalba" and the title track are very powerful songs, but "Ahura Mazdā-Aŋra Mainiuu" and "Χ ξ ς'" just meander along without developing into anything worthwhile. Some of the other songs lose my attention for a while, but then come back with a strong finish. I think if they spent more time writing better structured songs this album could have been something great.
I highly recommend you give their early material another chance. Thy Mighty Contract
and Triarchy of the Lost Lovers
are two of my favorite black metal albums.
