First things first: K-pop > you. More specifically, Girls Generation > You. That's all.

As far as American pop here, I only know things on a song-by-song basis, not albums. But there has been an explosion of better-than-normal pop music in recent years. I kinda feel that more and more pop stars are embracing the Electro sound and becoming more eclectic instead of churning out by-the-books bubblegum pop or vocal-based pop music with boring instrumentals.

I'd have to agree with everyone that Lady Gaga is basically the best pop star of the 2000's so far. I'm also not hating the resurgence of boy bands and teen idols. If Jay Biebs can write more songs like this, then he'd be unstoppable.
