Deftones -- Columbia, MO -- October 21st, 2012

Scars On Broadway
@ The Blue Note - Columbia, MO

After a 6 hour drive we arrived at the venue and waiting inline. We entered the venue and I purchased a Deftones cassette (yep, you read that correctly) of their Koi No Yokan singles Rosemary and Leathers. Both songs, along with Tempest are awesome. If the rest of KNY is that good Deftones fans are in for a helluva awesome new album in a few weeks.

Scars On Broadway opened the show. I was not familiar with their songs but the band sounded good for what they played minus the bass drum being a bit too loud. The crowd was into the their set. Daron performed well and is a solid frontmant. I wasn't sure what to expect from him in a different band but I was pleased with Scars.

Deftones came out next and were full of energy. This is a band that looks like they are having fun with each other and enjoying their time on stage. The sound was excellent. I have seen Deftones 4 times dating back to the 1999 Ozzfest and I think they have improved drastically since that time and are easily one of the best live acts in metal/hard rock/whateveryoulabelthem.
Chino may very well be the most energetic frontman in heavy music.

Diamond Eyes
Rocket Skates
You've Seen the Butcher
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Digital Bath
Knife Prty
Engine No. 9
Change (In the House of Flies)
Bloody Cape
7 Words

Their new songs sounded awesome. Tempest is a great song but I don't think it went over well live. Leathers would have been the better choice for a lead off single imo. Poltergeist is not available other than in live form but here are links to the other 3 studio songs:

Tempest (Reminds me of Tool meets Pink Floyd):
