Negura Bunget -- Toronto, Ontario -- April 27th, 2012
Support: Wolven Ancestry, Eclipse Eternal, Din Brad, the Way of Purity (dropped off the tour)
Date: April 27th, 2012
Venue: the Hard Luck Bar in Toronto, Ontario
First time at the Hard Luck bar; it’s small, dingy and dirty, I liked it. The sound was actually really good too. I wouldn’t mind seeing more shows there.
I showed up late and missed Din Brad but I wasn’t too excited for them anyway. That style of music I like as one or two interludes on an album, but a full set of it I don’t know. Maybe I made a big mistake and would’ve loved them but I had to leave home late and help my wife get my son to bed.
I got there just as Eclpise Eternal was getting started. This was their first show on the tour since the Way of Purity had to drop off. I knew once WoP dropped off that either Eclipse Eternal or Panzerfaust would get added. I didn’t know that Eclipse Eternal was getting added to the entire tour. I’ve been friends with the drummer for 20 years and talking to him after they’re excited but really nervous. This will be their first tour outside of a week or two trek in Canada but I think they’ll be fine. If you end up going to see this tour give them some support. They sounded better tonight than I’ve heard them before.
2. Sacrifice Love to the Gods of Hate
5. Into Black Abyss
Wolven Ancestry was pretty cool. They had some really nice harmony’s during their first song. That’s all I really have to say. Not sure their songs but I’m pretty sure that they played the same set that was from Montreal earlier on in the week.
1. The Animistic Awakening
2. The Fountain of Ageless Growth, Lifeblood of All Who Doth Bear the Spirit of Gaia
3. March Forth Under Tortured Skies
4. Memories of Life Forgotten with Time
5. Silence of the Boreal
6. A Bloodline of Immortal Passion Bestowed the Harmony of Man and Wolf
I’d never really heard Negura Bunget before I bought this ticket but I was really interested. After seeing this show I’ve VERY interested. Probably one of the best concerts I’ve been to. As a fan of post-rock and black metal what more could I ask for? Their black metal stuff was good enough but where they really got me was their atmospheric parts. Usually stuff like that can get kinda boring sometimes live, but being in such a small venue and so well done it was something you couldn’t take your eyes off. It was mostly thanks to the keyboards. Pretty simple but like in the intro to Pămīnt just so haunting. Set highlights were Ţesarul De Lumini, Pămīnt, Norilor and Dacia Hiperboreană. At least I hope those are the titles. The singer was hard to understand and I don’t know their stuff really. I’m pretty sure they also played the same set as earlier in the week in Montreal. If this tour comes near you don't miss it. I doubt they'll play stateside again anytime soon.
1. Ţesarul De Lumini
3. Cunoașterea Tăcută
5. Poartă de Dincolo
6. Hora Soarelui
7. Dacia Hiperboreană
